richjNew Nikon blew up.
I was at the range today and saw the guts of a new Nikon 3-9 fall apart. was mounted on a Rem M7 in 308. I bought 2 of the older mods a few weeks ago. not mounted yet.

rowdyredneckWas it a Monarch or the cheaper Buckmasters line? I have two Monarchs and love them.

ReloaderWell, It's about time one failed. All we ever hear on these forums is how great Leupold's CS is on all the Leupies that break.

LWDReloader, good point. Maybe we'll get a good view of Nikon's CS now.

HeatNever a problem with my Buckmaster on a pretty light 30-06... My hunting partner had one of the older (read that roughly 2003) Monarch have the same problem twice mounted on his 300 win mag in a Ruger Nr. 1... They repaired/replaced quickly with no issues... He has since mounted a Leupold on it with no problems...
Knowing Nikon, I'm sure they have learned a thing or 2 about recoil and the abuse scopes can take since then... I like my Buckmaster enough that I was about to pick up one of their Titaniums to put on my 338-378 but the eye relief just wasn't there... It wears a Leupold at this point..
I'm hoping that Nikon gets a little more in touch with the "hunting" needs of scopes by extending their line and improving on the eye relief and eyebox... They are simply very good scopes... Nikon knows optics and durability when it comes to cameras so they should be moving up in the world of scopes over the next few years....

It always seems that anyone can make a useable optics system but making the mechanical guts reliable seems is rarely accomplished by any but the top makers.

Your request have been answered. Check out the all new Monarchs. If they live up to the hype they are going to be great hunting scopes.
