Zeiss Conquest Duralyt 30mm 1.2-5x 36mm, opinions?
Have a chance to get one at what I feel is a pretty good price, but would love to hear thoughts from someone who's used one in the field. Thinking of putting it on a Ruger No.1 chambered in 9.3x74R or a Remington Model 7 in 308.

My only previous experience with owning a Zeiss optic is a Conquest 3-12x56 and a Zeiss Ni2 auto level I use at work.

So for those of you that have owned or used one, what did you think of it?

I have 4 Duralyts and think they are a really good value. I just bought a fifth one from Camera Land. The one you are inquiring about for $500. They are new scopes not demos with full warranty. I really like them. My new one will soon be on a 338.

The Duralyt is the single Zeiss scope I hate. That big, thick rubber eyepiece may save your nose but it leaves you looking into a tunnel little better that you get with Deltas and Nikons.

The Conquests are not bad but, if you're lucky, you might still find a Victory Diavari 1.5-6 at a decent price. It is a beautiful scope with old-fashioned field blending, helped by a narrow, crumpling rubber eyepiece. A few months ago someone was selling them for less than $1000. Illumination was more than twice as much but I have real doubts about the modern addiction to battery power.

This line, I believe, has been discontinued by Zeiss. I own a 2-8x42 with a #4 reticle non illuminated model and really like it.

I was told Zeiss was just dropping the gray color and going to black.

Thanks. Glad to know that.

Go to Zeiss' web site and they now have the Conquest DL as the replacement. Black color and a little more streamlined. I like the Duralyts just fine at demo prices.

Just got the illuminated version from Europtic for a good price. Appears to be a lot of scope for $630 - illumination is a little cumbersome but works great.

I bought it as an additional scope for my 404 - leaving for Zim at the end of the month. So, I tell the guy at Europtic that I'm leaving very soon, and that I need the Talley 30mm QD low rings too (already have the bases installed). He says he understands ... I tell him again that I really need the right rings ASAP - the rings with the levers. He says he understands - "we're good" or something to that effect.

Guess what? He ships rings with the regular screws (no QD levers). I call Europtic - get the same guy and reexplain the deal. "Oh yeah, you need QD levers like we discussed. I thought I shipped them to you. Wait, I didn't charge you for the levers, but I have them in stock."

But guess what my receipt says: 30mm QD Talley Rings. Whatever - I'll pay more - surely he'll fed ex them to me for free. Nope, he'll get them to me by the middle of next week for free. Yep, even though he knows he screwed up.

Moral of the story: Get Camera Land to price match or roll the dice. For what it's worth, I did get the right scope....

I just got the illuminated one and the regular one.

Seems like a good scope. Will put them on a bunch of ar platform guns I have lying around.
