Used Leupold gold ring spotting scope
Have the opportunity to purchase a used 12 x 40 x 60 Leupold gold ring spotting scope. Appears to be in good condition. Price is +/- $400. I've had good luck with vari-III rifle scopes.
Any opinions as to price and quality of this unit?

I have that spotting scope, and it has held up perfectly for maybe 10-12 years of constant use now. I really like the short length and forgiving eye relief. Both make it very practical in the field.

On the negative side, the rubber eye piece has a tendency to fall off. I guess I could glue it back on??

A quick look at eBay indicates these scopes sell for around $600+ - so $400 sounds like a great price (depending on the condition of the item). I believe they sell for around $800 new??

I have one that is about 10 years old-(the rubber fell off) and I recently had opportunity to compare it to the Nikon "Earth and Sky" 80mm scope. The Leupold is the better scope. Field of vison, resolution and ergonomics all better.
