setterrunOld Scope repair / source
Anyone know where I can get an old scope worked on or if anyone still does service on Weatherby scopes? I would also like to know where I could buy some older scopes for some period Mauser rifles. German #4 preferred.

bumfartoFor repair these guys have a good rep.
http://www.ironsightinc.com/You might also consider a "trick" I have used to have several Unertls cleaned up. Send them to TK Lee and have a Lee dot reticle installed. Along with the new reticle they are fully cleaned up.
Ebay is the best source for just about any used scopes.(I buy/sell classic scopes there)
If you need 26mm rings, I bought the entire stock of Leupolds last year when they were discontinued.
Classic scopes are usually underestimated by those enamoured with variables and huge objectives. I'll put a Unertl, Bausch & Lomb or Kollmorgen up against any current scope that sells for twice as much.
Wish I were young enough and rich enough to drag the 450 Nitro #2 3&1/2" (ex 458) wearing its circa 1960 Unertl 4X Hawk to hunt a Buff like the one in your avatar !

sambarman338When my old Kahles Helia 27 finally leaked after about 25 years it was sent back to the Austrian factory for new seals. This cost $540 dollars but restored it a treat.
There is a shop near me that manages to find old Pecar scopes in good nick. Last I saw they had a 4-10 variable that looked good for about $400. As you might recall, I believe those old scopes had a mechanical reliability that may be missing in this era of large power multiples via erector tubes vulnerable to inertia.
