Recommendations for 15 power binocs under $700.00?

Looking to buy a more powerful pair of binoculars for long range animal glassing on a tripod.

I don't want to spend too much.

Any suggestions?

IMO, the best 15x under $1,000 is the Steiner HX 15x56.

I can't recommend a particular binocular, but you're on the right track thinking of using a high power binocular in the place of a spotting scope. Looking through both eyes gives you a better picture, and does away with the eyestrain from keeping one eye closed for long periods of time.

The downside to using a binocular in this manner is that far too many binoculars are not properly collimated (both barrels pointed exactly the same direction). Poor collimation, particularly at higher magnification, results in all sorts of bad things, most particularly a splitting headache.

Doug has a solid suggestion there. I'd also look at the Nikon Monarch 5 16X56 and Vortex Kaibab 15's. Minox used to make some 15's that were very good, but you'll have to find them used now.

Tripod? Fujinon FMT SX 16X70. AWESOME and BIG!!
$1,049.00 on line. I have a pair of 10X70 FMT SX I would compare with about any binoc. I have owned Zeiss, Leica, Swar.
Just to big to carry.

I own two Steiners (6X and 8X) and I have did side-by-side comparisons in low light (glassing mule deer) with some very expensive Swars, and other than the weight (Swars were really heavy), there was no visible different in visual acuity.

Stonecreek, I agree but try an eye patch. It helps a ton if you ever glass with a spotter again. Binos still work better in my opinion.

We have these starting @ $949.99

Whatcha got that weighs less than 2 pounds in a 15 or 16 power? Or at least, closer to 2 pounds than to 3?

They went back to $999.99, but that is still a great deal! And good glass. If I hadn't picked up a new Burris Signature spotting scope (my buddy is a rep) I'd get these. And I did get a great demo tripod from Doug for this scope. Super service.
