Very prety .270, Witch scope ?
I just bought a very prety rifle. Its an FN supreem in .270 win. It was made in 1952 and in very good condition. It shoots good too !
It came with an old Bauch, N lomb 2.5X8 Bulvar scope in monts by the same firm. The Windage and elevation adjusments are in the basses, not the scope. When I took the old bases off, I discover that while the front holes match perfectly to a modern set of leupold bases there are no holes in the rear except on the side for a peep site. I hate to ahve to do but i am gonna have to drill and tap one hole anyway and use the one pc base.
Now I need to pick a scope. Thinking of a Bussrs Signiture select 3X10 by 40 Or a VX 3 Leupold 2.5X8. I already have 2 of the leupolds, and I could get the leupold in gloss witch this classy rifle soret of calls out for.
I am open to sugjestions, the Ziess conquest might be a great choice. I don't know anybody with a Pentex, what do you know about them ? ...tj3006

I think what you plan to use it for should dictate what power and scope that you buy. If you live out west, then a good old 6x42 Leupold works. That's what I had on my .270 .

If I were going to use a fixed power I might opt for a Leupold 6 power. And portlan Ore where I live is about as har west as you can get
with getting salt water on your feet. About 80 miles form the cost.
I think the modern variables are the way to go with a .270. Certainly should out last the remaining hunting years of my life, I am 46 and if I stay healthy I shoul be able to hunt another 25 years or so.

What's wrong with the Balvar 2.5-8x?

Nothing wrong with the bulvar at the range under a cover, and I did think about leaving it on. But I did not want to try to zerp it with the bases I played around a bit with it but it really is an overengeieerd st up and I think a modern scope with good mounts is likly to fog under adverse weather and just eaiser to change zero should I want to shoot a differnt bullet weigh...tj3006

I would honestly leave it as is. A year from now you will pull it out of the case and it will look like every other rifle you own.

I just did up an old Springfield and put an old Weaver K6 with old Redfield rings and mount just for it to be unique.

A 2-8 is all a 270 will ever need.

I also vote to keep the current setup.
