Found good buys from Doug on these two, and was wondering what you guys think?

Surprised to see no one's chimed in on this. I can tell you I recently bought a Vortex Viper HS 4-16 for a varmint rifle, and it's without a doubt the best scope you could buy under $1000 in that magnification range. I'm supremely impressed with the entire line of Vortex optics. At 16x, it's almost clearer than my Leupold spotting scope at the same magnification. The Vortex VIP/forever/whatever warranty is also attractive. Literally, no matter what happens to the scope they will repair or replace it free.

I've seen the deals on those HS's. Jump on it and you will not regret it.
