scope for Enfield
In the past, I had no problem finding a scope with enough mounting area to work well on a P-17. These days, it seems everyone is shrinking their scopes. Any recommendations on a medium/low price 3-9x40 or so with room to fit an Enfield using Weaver type rings?

I have a Minox that doesn't fit. Have a Weaver Nitrex that fits, but my rings are not high enough.
Thanks

You might investigate reversible bases. If the front base is a Weaver and the same number that fits a M70 Winchester there is a long front base for a Savage 110. The Savage number base can be installed with the overhang back over the loading port.

my 1917 Enfield is profiled/drilled/tapped same as a Remington 30 would be....I have Weaver steel bases on it, with Weaver QRW rings... I have no trouble with a Zeiss Conquest 3-9x44 on it...eye relief works out...

Appreciate the replys. Looks like extension rings only come in high. I will need to check the profile to see what base fits. Good idea on the extension front base if it will work. Wish I could afford a Conquest. Fixed income has me looking at Burris FF2, Vortex Diamondback, and such. Bushnell Elite would fit, but I will no longer buy their products due to dealings with their customer service (lack of) in the past.

BTW, all weavers are quick release and return to zero, you just have to keep the tension the same on return and do that by keep the angle of the slots the same all the time..I try to get mine either straight up and down or cross wise. They work as well as any high dollar mounting system I have used..

I prefer 3X and 4X Leupolds along with the 1x4 and 1.5x5 and I suppose even the older 2x7x33 for a variable, but not crazy about varibles.

Those old fixed scopes have some tube length and are tough as nails and I never have needed more scope than 2.5X to 4X for big game hunting. All I require in a scope is a scope that dependable and clear enough to see a an animal in decent light and the ability to put the cross hair on its shoulder or between its eyes, the rest is a sales pitch for the money grabbers. I have yet to shoot a head of game that a big power scope would make any difference...

I can conjur up a situation where one might be better off with 8 to 12 power, but so far those situation have only been in my mind..
