does this scope exist ??
if it does damn if i can find it.
leopold VX-3
6.5 or 8 power to 20 power
30mm tube dia.
40-50 mm "end" of tube
regular, not high target turrets
HEAVY duplex reticle
i got one in w/the FINE reticle on advice recieved elsewhere but the crosshairs blend in w/the scenery. i want heavy lines w/finer lines in center where they intersect.
don't like the varmit or B&C reticles
$800 or less range THANKS

John, might be hard to find one in high magnification with a heavy reticle, as most are used for long range requiring a very precise aim point. Why not just send the one you have to Leupold for a reticle change?

thats an idea i hadn't considered! would it be time consuming and expensive? guess i could call leopold unless you happen to know. thanks

I'm sure others here have done it. Leupold has exemplary customer service, and I'm sure it would be done quickly and cheaply.

Send it to Leupold and have the crosshairs replaced with what you want.

I thought that it was $75 for a reticle change.

The last one I had done in Beaverton was a few years back and it cost me $50 then, so $75 is likely just about right on.

Still, if he is willing to pay up to $800 for a new scope, the $75 to make what he has into what he wants doesn't seem to be out of his price range....

P.S. Mine was converted to the "Leupold Dot" reticule...tapered crosshairs becoming thinner in the middle of the scope, with a dot at their juncture.

absolutely right about the $$$ factor. i grew up on a redfield wideview w/the heavy duplex and just like the thing. when the fine crosshairs fade out or blend in w/the scenery i can always frame the animal in the easy to see heavy darker reticle. gonna call em monday and get it done.

You can build any scope configuration you want in their website. Any color, reticle, or whatever. Go to the custom shop section in the Resources tab on top. Yours would be a VX3 long range (6.5-20x40mm LR). Choose "other" for reticle, then open the bottom menu for reticle selection. With your specs, it comes to $794.98. So, it uses just about every penny in your budget.... Smiler

It's essentially a stock scope, with a $35 reticle option. They are showing 5 days turnaround time for reticle changes. So, without a custom color or anything else, you should be able to get it quite quickly.

i guess. everytime i spend money on something like this i think back to when my grandmother would rant and rave about a 25cent head of lettuce and how there was no way they could justify it. it was ROBBERY. now i figure what the hell, i want it, the house and cars are paid of, etc etc so yea, i guess i got off cheap. now i just need to get it here!

Here is a link to the one of the scopes I have. I got the varmint hunters reticle on it, it is also available in what they show as fine duplex.

I remenber comparing both reticle side by side and I think that the fine section is the same size line in the Varmint reticle, between the heavy ret section.

Anyway, the fine line is thick enough that it doesn't blend into the target on the varmint ret. I would think that the fine would be ok for you.

yea, on the link you sent, the pic w/the deer on the right is the one they are going to put on for me.
