ruger rings
I have a sightron 1.5 - 6 x 42 scope that I would like to mount on my ruger 06. the problem that I have is the medium rings are to low to clear the front bell and the tall rings are not comfortable. are there some rings out there that fall in between? I just need a little higher ring to clear the front bell. any help would be welcome.

P.S
I am on the road so I can't measure the clearance that I need

Well, I'm surprised that the medium rings don't work.

I have a leupold scope on one of my rugers (220 swift) (40mm bell) and it looks like it would clear 42mm without any problem. The tall rings that ruger has, will clear a 56mm scope bell on my 243. M77 tang safety.

What rifle model is it?

I too am surprised that medium won't clear it. I have a Nikon Buckmasters 40mm and the outside of the bell is 49.3mm. It sits in medium rings and there is still a bit of clearance. I had looked at putting a Nikon Titanium 44mm on the same rifle as an upgrade but just didn't do it. It still cleared with the medium rings however. By the way it's on a Ruger 77 Mk II in 30-06.

The rifle is a 77 mk II the scope is a compact so the bell hits the barrel where it starts to taper into the action if I had a standard length it wouldn't be a problem. I love the scope and it would be perfect on that rifle but I'm lacking just a fraction of height to make it work I was hoping that a different brand of rings might get me the height that I need without going to the tall Ruger rings.

Okay, I didn't realize that scope was a compact.

Unfortunately, I have not seen the ruger rings with different heights other than what you already have.

I have seen a mount that changes the ruger to a pictanny(weaver) rail, and then you may be able to use the low style weaver type mounting to get it closer. I will try to find the link to this mount.

That looks like the ticket. It should raise the overall mount height just a touch and you would be able to use just about anybodies Weaver style medium rings.

I'm glad you posted that mgoodrich, now I have options for rings on my Ruger.
