How is the new Burris XTRII 34mm line?

Several years ago I owned an XTR 3-12 50mm, might have been illuminated, don't recall.

What I do remember was the design was poor, due to the long rear ocular lens assembly and long rear tube. Scope was impossible to mount correctly on an AR-10 or any but he longest Picatinny rail.

Nice quality in many respects but too much pita to justify keeping it. I usualy mount all my scopes so the ocular lens is right over rear of receiver. The XTR would not setup correctly for me. The New XTR-II line looks very similar.

Long rear ocular lens group and long rear tube is an old-timey design going back to barrel mounted scope bases. Always thought the Unertl Varmint and Benchrest scopes looked beautiful in their return-to-battery scope mounts, but never cared enough to pay money to own one. Current state of art scope design is more compact and this makes for greater mount flexibility. YMMV
