what size and power spotting scope do you prefer for 2 different types of spotting scopes

hunt #1: a hunt where you walk for roughly 1-30 minutes from a truck, boat, etc.

hunt #2: a hunt where you live out of a backpack for a week

I like my old Baush and Lomb, Rochester NY, 20X fixed, but I suppose I would like to have a 30X lens for it, on the bench rest..The 20X is best for hunting IMO..

I have 3 or 4 spotting scopes. The last one I got was a B&L Balscope SR, 20X. Im done, the search is over. tu2 The others are for sale, Lol.

Personally Ive never taken a spotting scope hiking with me. Just binoculars and rifle scope.

Ill second that motion, no need for two or three when you have one old 20X B&L.

Agree! A Balscope Sr is my first choice... 20 or 25x for range work, and 20x for field

That's why I have 2 of them.. One with a table tripod for range work, and the other has an OLD B&L window mount.. and since my hunting days are largely behind me, the 2nd one is for sale.. Whats a reasonable price to ask? $100 bucks?

I'll post pics and list it in classifieds in the near future..

Incidentally, the 25X eyepiece seems to be extremely rare, and I'd be willing to trade my spare Balscope Sr with the 20X eyepiece and window mount for it... got one?

I have a swarovski 65mm with the 25-50x eyepiece, it does everything I need in a spotter.

Use Enough Gun
I have a Swaro STS 80mm, as well the new modular 95 mm BTX. With the advantages of the BTX, it's hard to go back to the one-eyed spotting scopes! Big Grin
