Grumulkin458 Lott Scope Mounting
I have a Leupold 2-7X VX-1 scope mounted on a 458 Lott with Talley quick detach rings. The problem is that with shooting, the scope moves forward in the rings until the rear ring touches the scope power adjusting ring thus giving me a fixed 7X scope. I've tightened the rings as much as I dared without stripping the screw threads and even put Locktite under the rings to no avail. If any of you have some suggestions for curing the problem, I'd like to hear about it.

You just aren't tightening them enough. I've got a 1" Leupy in Tally's on one of my Lotts a 416 etc. and no slippage...............DJ

GrumulkinYea, maybe I need to be a little more agressive in tightening the rings; if they break, I'll bet Leupold and Talley will stand behind them.
I may be a little shy because of recently being burned. I tightened up rings on a Bushnell Trophy handgun scope to keep it from slipping on a 460 S&W Magnum. The rings bent the scope tube and the scope still slipped.

djpaintlesI asked Talley once what was there reccommended torque for their rings and IIRC they recommended 25-30 inch/lbs for the bottom screws and 20-25 inch/lbs for the top screws. I've used those settings using a calibrated torque driver on some scopes but tend to go a little tighter yet.
You might try lapping them for better total contact. Their rings and bases are square but the receiver of most rifles isn't and lapping can help make up for a little receiver "intolerances".
But all that being said the most important thing to remember about a scope on a Lott is to have the thing as far forward as possible! You'll only leave it too far back once.......

N E 450 No2I have heard of people using rosin [sp] to help the rings grip the tube. I also have heard of people using loctite in the rings to stop scope slippage.
I think Leupold used to make a round collar that fit their straight tube objective handgun scope. This collar would fit between the adjustment turret and the front ring, thus allowing the bulge of the adjustment turret to keep the scope fron sliding foward.
