Same thing goes for joining NRA.

I could not agree more.

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

Brett,
I was hoping you would comment as Shootaway and Skyline were not much help....

The poll is like asking members if they like SCI or not.

How about this:

-Sci is an international organization able to bring in membership abroad.

-the local chapters can concentrate on their demographic whilst still having the support of the mothership

-the convention is awesome!

-it has the membership count and finances to influence policy, and fight legal battles to preserve hunting heritage

-don't like the inner circle? Guess what? It's completely optional. No one is gonna make you enter your animals for records entry.

-It's our best chance as hunters and I second the notion to join NRA. Their partnership in defending hunters rights is just what we need. NRA can get away with a little of the extreme fight and Sci can back them up with our science based arguments.

Bryce,
Well said. Maybe we all should do that.

As noted above, I believe despite its faults SCI is worthy of support, particularly the local chapters. However, I think those that keep talking about the inner circles, the awards, the trophy listings as being optional are missing the point others are trying to make. The inner circles, the awards program, the trophy listings all perpetuate an image of hunters hunting for trophies or recognition as opposed to hunters hunting as a way to connect with nature, to maintain a connection with the past, to serve a conservation role, to put meat on the table, etc. We know from research and public attitude polling that the public attaches a negative connotation to the notion of "trophy hunting", why perpetuate that notion? And then to take the concept and start to expand it to bird hunting . . . the grand slam of quail, dove, etc. . . . is just frankly comical.

Mike, I agree too on the awards. I would just as soon not have them for Sci but can one dislike the Sci awards yet still embrace the B&C and P&Y awards? I will admit that I do. I guess I just never really cared for the Sci system in general....
