FATBOY404READY FOR AFRICA
Well it is nearly time.
I fly out good Friday for Zim on a 10 day Buffalo hunt with my Father and sister. We will be hunting with Sango Safaris.
My father was diagnosed with mesothelioma ( asbestos cancer ) in Sept 2008. He under went chemo in January 2009 and after the second bout he had a stroke and was hospitalized for 9 weeks. He was told he would never use his left arm again and may walk with the use of a frame.
To his credit he proved them all wrong and returned to running the home property and doing most things including shooting (he took a nice Fallow last year, not long after being home).
When he was told he had cancer his wish was to get back to Afrca and hunt a Cape Buffalo. After being told today he had the all clear for another three months we can now get excited about Africa.
My sister is coming along as an observer and to share some memories with her Dad (and hold the video camera).
Hopfully we come home with our two Buff, but if we dont it is time and memories shared !!.
Here,s a photo of my 404 ready for the Dark Continent. It is loaded with 400 grain Hydro Woodleighs hot off the press (they were only made last week at my request). After polishing the feed ramp they feed just fine. I,d like to thank Geoff of Woodleigh for his help in getting these bullets to me in time for my hunt, Great company and Great product !!.
Cheers Neale.
Heres a photo of two Woodleigh Hydro's recovered from a target tree with a chainsaw either side of an unfired one.

There is an article linked on the
Woodleigh site. New hydrostatically-stabilized design, or so they say.
I invited my father to go on my first safari with me. I could take a guest for free and asked the safari company if it would be ok if he shot a few animals off my quota (it was a package hunt). They said sure.
My father declined the offer. Later that year his kidneys failed and him ever going was probably lost.
Savour your time afield with your father.

Gerrypeters375As a quite old man (who has also read history), I am not remotely surprised at how the Aussies stand up in battle - and fatboys father demonstrates how well they do. I fear for the buffs!

FATBOY404Here's a link for testing of the Hydro's.
Thanks for your kind words and support.
Cheers Neale.

cable68My father was not an outdoorsman, but some of my favorite hunting memories are of the rare times out hunting with him; and I don't think we ever took anything but a few birds.
I wish you and your father the best of luck, and I hope you develop even fonder memories than I have.

retreeverNeale, the best to all on the hunt. NOW to get serious. Tell the videographer to make sure batteries are charged daily and canera has film or disk in it and to turn it on. Make sure to stand still and video the charge.

Ear plugs absolutely will keep her from flinching at the shot. No kidding here.
A father and children on safari, outstanding.

BigChev4x4Good luck to you and your family on your hunt. I never got to make it to Africa with my dad but plan on taking my children. Be sure to write a report and include plenty of pictures when you get back.

Are you hunting with Craig Robinson of Sango Safaris or is this a different outfit? If you are hunting with Craig, you will enjoy it. My hunting partner and I had Craig as our PH while hunting with Buffalo Range Safaris in 2007. He is a good guy and worked hard for us. I took 2 buffalo over 40" with him. We got in nice and close. Great fun.
Craig came over to SCI this January with Barry and Rob Style and we shared many drinks and memories.
Feel free to PM me if you are hunting with Craig.
Regards,
RCG

FATBOY404Yes it is Craig we will be hunting with. I took him to watch a rugby union game when he was in Australia and he had a ball.
