Big Eland Bulls
I´m not too good at posting pics but I hunted eland in March and it was great! Two days of walking (about six hours a day) and I finally got my old bull. He went 36 inches and dropped to the shot (9.3x62 using 300gr ProAmm ammo).

I highly recommed eland!

Great thread Russell. Thanks to all for sharing their pictures. I have eland on my menu for May 07. I found it very interesting all of the different calibers used....all the way down to a 270! Kind of reinforces the old addage that shot placement is key! Thanks again to all.

Russell,

Those Eland are fun aren't they? Thanks for the stories and the pictures.

If the Eland was dangerous, he would be on par with the Buffalo, and just as much fun as Buffalo hunting ... and as expensive!

I have so far been unsuccessful hunting eland. For me, hunting them has been extremely frustrating. I've seen and then spooked one or more bull eland several times in two different African countries, in each case, without being able to fire a shot.

Because of the circumstances, all we could do was watch them run out of sight. Of course, we chased them every time. I have walked untold miles through thickets and thorns, over hills, through dales and across dry river beds for hours and hours and all to no avail, all while chasing eland.

Maybe some day my luck will turn . . .

So on your next safari say you will never hunt Eland again and hope you never see an Eland and that you are concentrating on Kudu. Then you will just bump into one Eland after another.

This one was my first and was taken three weeks ago in Namibia. His horns look like tree branches.
