BahatiWarthog mount
I've shot a nice warthog recently and want to do a European skull mount with it. I cannot decide the shape of the wooden shield behind it, so any idea will be appreciated.
Here's the warthog ...

TrophyShotPrintsCongrats on the MONSTER TUSKER...

That's going to be something on the WALL...

Nice pigs! Boha of AR has shot a few like that and he´s always takne them as bleached skulls -they make a great centerpiece and look great in the office.

Great piggie Johan!
The term "European skull mount" is a bit of a misnomer for a pig, though. In Europe, pigs are mostly displayed simply by the tusks - or, less commonly, as shoulder mounts. It would be the exception in Europe to find a piggie displayed with tusks and skull. Tusks are most commonly mounted on a round(ish) shield - filled with some material to minimize the risk of cracking.
I guess one of the problems with displaying skull and tusks on a shield, is that you really need to see the tusks from the front to appreciate their size and shape. Most skull mounts I have seen of pigs therefore do without a shield, and the skull is simply displayed lying on a surface like a mantlepiece or bookcase.

jshoneyI like mine on a pedestal shaped like Africa. Made it myself out of an oak board with a 3/4 inch dowel.

Although the skulls look nice, I have to agree. How about a pedestal?

GraftonIf you want to hang it on the wall, a panel that displays the skull at an angle could be nice. Something like this one:

I used this for the minimalist look on 2 warthog skull mounts. I like it a lot. Bob

Aspen Hill AdventuresThat is a very nice warthog. Here's a suggestion, have the tusks cast for a shoulder mount and use the real ones for the skull.
The skull with the lower jaw sits nicely on a table with out a stand.
