NYIMBA district commissioner Fabian Kapatamoyo has disclosed that lions are continuously terrorising the district and have since killed 20 domestic animals in chief Ndake's area.
In an interview, Kapatamoyo said the situation was worrying because his office had received 30 reports concerning the beasts in the past six weeks.
Kapatamoyo said apart from cattle, five pigs have already been killed in Ndake's chiefdom, thereby causing panic among villagers.
"The lions started terrorising the district early last month, but the situation is more strange now than it was before," Kapatamoyo said.
He said the Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) had already been informed of the development and more than five officers had since been deployed in Ndake's area.
"I personally took five ZAWA officers to the affected villages so that we can see how we can help the villagers," Kapatamoyo said.
Kapatamoyo said ZAWA's efforts to control the beasts were being hampered by inadequate resources.
He disclosed that the District Development Co-ordinating Committee (DDCC) resolved that every department and stakeholder should donate 10 litres of fuel to ZAWA so that it could get rid of the animals
"Nyimba District is only allocated 210 litres of fuel per month by the provincial headquarters and this prompted DDCC to work out strategies on how it can help ZAWA," Kapatamoyo said.
Kapatamoyo said ZAWA had since appealed to people with legal firearms to come forward and help track down the eleven lions.
The district commissioner who presented the issue to the Provincial Development Coordinating Committee (PDCC) on Friday, has since appealed to ZAWA to act quickly to avoid loss of life.

458RugerNo1John Taylor talked about his dealings with many such roving groups of maneaters terrorizing districts and villages. I believe one of the groups he killed-off was around 11 or 12 lions by the time he'd gotten them all.

nainitalPerhaps we should remember George Rushby´s deeds in dealing with the Njombe maneaters...I´m waiting for a picture on that, unless the PETA followers forbid such show of a certain animal behaviour
