A Nyanga man was on Saturday asphyxiated when he stuck his head into a hole where a rabbit he was chasing had sought refuge.
Energy Kamuruko (20) of Mandipaka Village under Chief Mutasa was alone when the incident occurred at around 3am.
A villager found his body, with the head stuck in the hole, and informed his colleagues who went to make a police report.
Kamuruko went to hunt with his dogs on Saturday and tried to corner a rabbit, which sneaked into a hole in the ground.
Kamuruko then inserted his head into the hole in a bid to see where the rabbit had gone.
Indications are that he tried to pull his head out but failed and in the process suffocated to death.
A villager, Anne Nyagura (36), discovered Kamuruko’s body and went to tell her colleagues of the sight she had stumbled upon.
A deputation was dispatched to inform the police.
The body was taken to Nyanga District Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem.
The post-mortem results show that Kamuruko died as a result of asphyxia secondary to suffocation.
In August, a 36-year-old Shamva man died after he stabbed himself with his own spear while he was out hunting wild pigs with a friend.
Tamsen Lucius died on the spot after the spear impaled him through the chest.
He had climbed a tree after they cornered a wild pig and as he prepared to throw his spear, he lost his footing, fell and was impaled by his own weapon.

DLSMust have been one hell of a big rabbit hole, or one very small head. Given his judgement, I'll bet it was the latter.

I'm not sure which one would be the better Darwin candidate. This second one is incredible! Oh well, at least they're improving the gene pool!
