Buffalo Charge
Hi Folks,

We have added some footage of a full blown buffalo charge on our portal for those who may interested in witnessing an irate buffalo's tenacity.

It is not a “staged or set up charge†as seen in some of the video footage out on the market ...simply a grand old bull that took exception to being disturbed and chose to settle matters the hard way.

To view the clip, choose “safari footage†from the bottom menu options at www.africanhuntersguild.com

Hi Gents,

The clip is in windows media player format and on testing works fine on all the PC's running windows we could find ... sorry to hear that you can't open it, anyone else had a problem viewing it?

Either which way I'll ask my technical colleagues to check it out ASAP.

When I click on the film clip it pulls up a small browser box with what appears to be windows media player. However, this separate browser is very small and the player says "locating media" but won't play.

I tried it with a variety of clients (Explorer, Firefox and Netscape), and it won't play. Windows media player opens in a new window, it looks for the media, says it's "done", but will not play, exactly as Rattlesnaker described it.
I would like to see this video. Perhaps you could post the file for download, and let us open and play it off line.
Best, Starcharvski.

I got it to work, but had to do a bit of url hacking. I think there is some scripting that has to be revised - possibly to allow users outside of your firewall to access it??

That was pretty intense! Well worth watching!! It made my pulse quicken right off...

I couldn't get it to play either as it's set up on the web site. Tried it in Internet Explorer 6.0 and Mozilla Suite (1.7.6). I agree with the_captain that there may be some javascript and/or firewall issues that need fixing. (I'm not an expert when it comes to web site design/development, though.)

In the meantime, until the technical issues on the web site get sorted out, here's the direct link to the video:

Thanks Bob! Now I can see it! I counted 6 shots. I think I would have put a couple more in just for insurance. That would certainly get the adrenalin pumping!!

It was nice to see and I enjoyed it. All the better, since it wasn't wounded a few times on purpose just to make for a dramatic moment. Not that certain "Death at my Toenails" PHes do such things, of course. Roll Eyes

Thanks for providing the link Bob F. I just have one question: Was the buffalo given the choice as to how it was going to die? Sorry, couldn't resist! Awesome footage!

Based on the number of shots and the time-frame, i'd say everyone! (Listen closely and you can hear rounds being ejected while another round is being fired almost simultaneously.)

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure the lady in the blue outfit is a fine shot, but a seasoned hunter would have a problem getting that many shots off that quickly (Knowing that, She proabably DID!).

There's definitley more than one shooter.

The way that buff is bobbing it's head, it makes me rethink trying to go for a brain shot on a charge!

Although cartridge selection is important there is nothing that will substitute for proper first shot placement. Good hunting, "D"

I've seen that video before, last year when I was in Africa! I beleive the video was called AS THE DUST SETTLES. On the DVD, there were several hunts, this lady actually shot a couple animals as I recall. The reason I remember it was that an oral surgeon we knew from South Dakota was on the video hunting buffalo in Mozambique. I'm pretty sure Outdoor Visions sells it.

Wonderful footage. Thanks for posting the link.

What I missed is the PH's instruction the "Shoot it now" when the buff was standing nice and broadside.

Really makes me remember old things of the past, and the signature of one of the regular posters about something like "Once you have been amongst them, there is no such thing like enoug gun."

Last summer when I wrote about my charge in the Dande several members here including Saeed commented that if I'd just shot him in the head when he came all of this close range nonsense would have been avoided.

NOW ARE YOU GETTING THE BIG PICTURE BOYS!!!!

A head shot is not always possible during a charge...

PS

That clip was from the video "As the Dust Settles".

If you watch the entire sequence you'll see that they didn't want to shoot that buff at first. It was laying down and the PH claped his hands to get it to stand up so as to better judge it. He then told "Virginia" to not shoot it was to small. About that time the old boy charged and the fight was on.
