ledvmIt amazes me how much Africa and esp African wildlife suffers when the US is weak. Africa deteriorated while Jimmy Carter was President and the same with Barack Obama.
When the US and World Economies are weak, and the Executive Branch of the US government is weak...the mafias of the world thrive and African Wildlife suffers.
It was just a short 6-8 years ago that we were touting how ele numbers were "universally" on the rise...dammit!!!

THat is a horrible but sadly unsurprising number. Some action is now being taken but far too late.

fujotupu"Operation Dead-Mouse Drop"
The mission is part of an $8 million program from the Interior and Defense departments
A group of 2,000 dead mice equipped with cardboard parachutes have been airdropped over a United States Air Force base in Guam in order to poison brown tree snakes.
What a waste of money! - Wouldn't it have been better spent somewhere else?

I can understand the DoI being involved (not really, but just for the sake of argument) ... but I guess they needed the DoD to supply the parachutes.

stubbleduck47From the photographs it does not look like the snake in question is a pit viper. If it is I don't think this system is going anywhere. In any case I really wonder how it might work as snakes really aren't known as scavengers of the dead.

georgeldWonder if it's a true $8 Million and not Billion.
Hell, teach the locals how good snake is to eat and the problem would be solved. Best fried chicken I've ever eaten was a rattlesnake.
