My 45-70 headed to Africa! (The return of Carmelo)
Well all,

It has been a while since I posted on AR. I was hanging around HA for a bit until the local trolls just overwhelmed me with boredom.

I see you all had a lot of time to reflect on the article in Rifle magazine, I had sent them an email some time back and was glad to see they actually honored individual requests. Kudu's to Rifle magazine. As some of you may have noticed the article was not exactly pro 45-70 to the extent that I am, but it was fair considering the magazine wants to cover it's butt due to legal liability should some fool pop a "hot-rodded" 45-70 round in an old trapdoor rifle.

My Marlin 1895CB is ready to hit the Dark Continent very soon. Anything that falls into the sights of "my beast" is going to drop dead.

I can't wait to come back and make fools of the TROLLS.

In the meantime anyone afraid to use a 430 grain 45-70 at 2100 fps with a well constructed Hard cast or Solid against anything in Africa really should be back at home hunting prairie dogs at 250 yards. YOU DON'T BELONG HUNTING D/G!

Let's be realistic everyone... Most of these "Wannabee African Experts" you see dominating these forums are making a living selling canned hunts brokering for cheese ball outfits and the forums are free advertising for them.

Take everything with a grain of salt. The same round I mentioned is almost identical to the standard .404 Jeffery round and that caliber has been hailed as one of the legendary African chambering. So lets get real here. They can deny it all they want ( or when it's convenient ) they say the 45-70 is illegal in some countries only because of outdated SAAMI specs that DO NOT APPLY to modern hot loaded 45-70 rounds like Garrets or Buffalo Bore, or properly constructed hand loads.

Believe what you wish, but dont assume these guys are all experts because they shout the loudest. There is plenty of negative feedback on the Internet about some of these forum advertisers and their lamo outfitting/canned hunts.

Hunt responsibly and sensibly and dont let these crooks con you out of your hard earned cash.

Happy hunting all.

Aren't we blessed by your return.

Speaking of trolls, some of your more memorable posts.

Nah. just no need to hurt some of the actual posters here that are truly trying to learn.
Karl, let's be realistic.
I am in the IT field, I could come at this forum from a thousand different IP's I could write a scrip that registers a new user name every 7 minutes and post 10 times an hour from each login.
I could have the script respond to each post from each bogus user name I could effeictively shut this forum down wiht legitmate posts without so much as any effort expended.

Feel free to hit the ignore button. To respond to this or any other post with whatever drivel you wish.
I am done.
You are mostly close minded individuals who wish to live in a false reality but that is cool. To each their own.
I won't be responding TO ANY MORE posts or even logging in to the forum.

Key words being legitmate posts you moron.
Please don't ressurect the flames.
You and the old fool ray are asking for problems at others expense. Just let it go.

There's a thread over on HA that talks about his being banned there.

Yeah it's true. I have been banned from posting there once I showed a few LINKS TO NEGATIVE FEEDBACK on a few of the SAME African Hunting outfits and brokers that post here!

Apparantly a few of our resident experts became experts at ripping people off. I posted a link to the article (which was amazingly "deleted" and I was banned)
Hmmmm makes you kind of wonder if these con artists are all in cohoots together..

All I can say is HUNTERS BEWARE! Choose your outfitter wisely.
You can do Internet searches and see the real deal on a lot of these Capstick Crooks.

Yes I was banned, no reason was given or stated to either myself or anyone esle on the forum.
However this happened right after I posted a bunch of links to people complaining about how they got a bum deal from a bunch of "well known forum outfitters and brokers"
The post was also deleted and I was banned.

Here is another interesting quote - note the date

ChuckWagon,

In your statement that you won't seem PH's glorifying the use of a 45-70 on Buf, then you haven't read Brian Pearce's article in Rifle Mag, where the PH clearly states that the 45-70 penetrated far deeper than any 458 winchester Magnum wound channel he had ever inspected.

I just got my own 45-70 Marlin, but have shot friends rifles and with a 460 grain Jaeco bullet penetrated through 2.5 feet of tree trunk with ease.

That round will skewer any freaking cape buf with no prob what do ever.

Must be really, really difficult to keep all your lies straight...

I only post in threads the interest me or on topic for the original threads intention.
If my posts or opinions on the 45-70 are not to your taste then either ignore them/me or skip over the posts.

You guys act like someone is holding a 45-70 to your head and forcing you to read them.

Can you explain what lies you are referring to Zero IQ?
You show a post that shows one of my first loads like two months ago... I am not clear as to the point?
I have worked that load up and changed components several times over in the last couple of months but each has been a hot rodded round that would easily squash any buff.
So care to clarify your point?

Carmelol,
Saeed has no advertisers here and wouldn't ban you or at least I don't think he would.
I'm just curious as to what got you banned at HA to see for myself what they did not want you me or anyone else to see ,what are they hiding??????? I can only think it involves some of there advertisers.
AND if they are protecting advertisers thats are ripoffs then they are accomplises in my book. You know the birds of a feather flock together sort of thing.
If I can see what you posted I can judge for myself.
Post it here and roll the dice,if you get banned well they won't be getting no cherry as you've been screwed before!
Nobody likes you here anyway so what do you got to lose.Access to this site at most!Thats all!!!!

Wolfe good point.
But my goal is not to make more enemies.

Check out HA you can probably still see from older posts who I was alluding to and search out the results from there.

As you can tell no one on HA will admit or even state the reason they banned me.

It's about $$ as usual though..
None of which would be going to you or I.

Bill,
I was actually more or less referencing the point of that thread made by 1895ss that unless you state the reasons why I was banned (which we all know why) then it is unfair to ban someone, especially when you continue to bad mouth that person afterwards while denying him a voice.

That is basically childish.
Now I don't always agree with SAEED but he is at least fair.

HA was going downhill when I got there, even the forum members stated it, read the posts, full of false advertising, con artists and sellers of canned hunts and other garbage.
I don't care about being banned but as I said in my email to you, I did have you pegged for more logical and intelligent than what you proved yourself to be.
No need to concern yourself with un-banning me.
Just get HA's act together over there.
Get rid of the spam, the TROLLS, the fakers, the phonies and the con artists that Habitate that place and you might have a good forum again.
Good luck to you.

Carmelo:

Your post is headed "My 45-70 headed to Africa". I guess it's insulting (and not really meant to be fighting "insulting") but you do sound more and more like a guy in a bar room fight " Hold me back! I'll kill him!" When, exactly are you going to Africa to hunt DG? BTW, I wish you all the luck in the world with your 45-70 - smokeless powder, new bullets and all. Don't forget to quote all the paper figures you have to your PH. He will respect your scholarship. What nyati might think when he gives you that stare at about 35 yards (assuming that your PH believes that the 45-70 is so deadly as you say it is and lets you that close) is, of course, something else. I just don't want to think about looking at an elephant at that range with a 45-70 in my hands. I have seen them that close and wasn't hunting them either and I'm here to say that an African elephant is one of God's most impressive creatures (next to me, of course!)- and I was very eager not to get her angry! (yes, a female and she scared me like all women always did!) Like I say, Good luck! Need I add, you'll need it?
22 April 2004, 10:45
Carmelo
I agree an elephant is surely an impressive animal.
However Karamojo Bell sure as heck didn't have any problem staring them straight in the eye, ya know why?
Because of his confidence in his ability to place a shot.
All that his his puny little mauser.

Heavy calibers are recommeded because most hunters suck, they can't place a shot worth a shit.
That being said my load is just as poweverful as the traditional 404 jeffery load with greater penetration.
It will take anything even if I sucked, and I assure you I dont'
Thanks for the kind words.

Carmelo:

I yield to no one in my love of the 7 x 57 Mauser. I know from first hand experience on black bear that its penetration capabilities are superb and that it is a superbly accurate cartridge. (I have used it in 140,154 loads) I know the cartridge has been used in Africa for decades. I didn't know that Karamojo Bell used it on elephant. I knew from my reading that another PH (whose name escapes me) used it on lion - and one of his peers predicted that one day, he would meet a lion who had not read the press clippings about the 7mm. I don't know if that lion ever caught up with him but I do know that you can kill any animal with anything - given perfect circumstances. (I read of some guys, on a bar room bet,(many years ago) who shot elephant with 22s - a shot behind the ear in a soft spot. Wanna try it some time?)

You don't sound stupid. They don't call these animals "dangerous game" for nothing. It's not just a joke to remember the old story (in the days when the 600 NE was the most powerful cartridge available and the PH was asked why he carried one: " Because I can't get anything bigger"
22 April 2004, 13:49
Carmelo
Legend has it Karamojo Bell killed close to a thousand elephants with that rifle.

Ah, what the hell, I'll make the same offer to Carmello I made to the other hoake the other week who wanted to do dg with a 45/70. You want buff with a 45/70, I'll give you one for half the price I normally charge for them, but you have to do it with the 45/70. You use anything else, you pay full price. You wanna do it? Put up or shut up. I'll send a videographer along for the ride, so if you can do it, wave the video in everyone's face and say "look at me!!!" If not, then stop posting about it. Somewhere, someone is paying for all this bandwidth you're wasting, so make it all worthwhile.

PM me for details. I got no problem dragging you out into the bush in Mozambique for monster buff. But you must use one of your collection of 45/70's-the trapdoor or the Marlin guide gun, or whatever it is you are using next week.
22 April 2004, 15:18
Carmelo
I would be happy to make burgers out of one of your Mozambique buff's with my Marlin 1895CB.
PM me with the costs dates and times. I will be in Namibia in May, would be happy to extend on your dime and shut all you lamo's up.

Reread my post carefully. I didn't say on my dime. Scroll thru past posts and look up the offer I made to the other guy. Same deal.
22 April 2004, 15:27
Carmelo
Ok missed that part, but still a fair offer, providing you aren't jackin up the prices to cover your loss.
I can make it to Mozambique from Namibia or SA on my own if you are for real.
PM me the details. I might be able to arrange it for the end of may providing I can get my partners to keep the business in one piece while I am gone.
C
22 April 2004, 15:29
hhmag
Here's the deal-
Trophy fee-$3500ea-no limit
Day fees (7 day min.) $800/day (usually $750, but the PH is in more danger on this hunt, so I gotta pay him more)
Import fee, License, etc.-$450
Air charter from RSA to Mozambiqe to my concession there-$1000 one hunter, $1200 for two (one non hunter)
Non hunter-$250/day

If you get there and decide that the 45/70 ain't enough gun, you pay $7000 per buff.

That should take care of it. I dare someone to take me up on it. That being said, I really like the 45/70, and I have hunted Africa successfully with a 454 Cassul, but I have enough common sense to know when I am undergunned.
22 April 2004, 15:33
Carmelo
A 454 casull over a 430 grain round at 2100 fps?
C'mon dude. Not even gonna entertain that argument.

Sorry to say I won't be able to afford that hunt on the tale end of my current.
The offer of $3500 for a buff is a good one though.
But the overall trip is out of my range in addition to what I am currently spending.
Thanks for the offer.

hhmag - Since Carmelo has absolutely no understand of these things, allow me to interject - This is a hell of a great offer. If Carmelo has any balls, he would jump at the chance. If he is full of shit as we all suspect, he will start wiggling with a plethora of excuses...
22 April 2004, 15:35
Carmelo
No excuses other than I can't afford it.
Sorry there Zero IQ but I am a working man. This hunt on top of what I am already spending is more than I can afford.
Sorry to break your heart there.
Believe me I stated before your rude interruption that it was a very good offer.

I guess any of us who can't afford two back to back hunts are all wigglers?

I guess I ain't as rich as you.

I wish I was the type to take kick backs.

Maybe then I could afford it.

Is that why you're using that guide gun. You can't afford a real DG rifle?
22 April 2004, 15:40

Hey Bill,

I thought we agreed to stay buddies?

I don't own a guide gun. I use a Marlin 1985 CB.

This however is not my only rifle. It is my only 45-70.

And for D/G I need no other.
