Steve Hornady hunts for lion, also gets a hippo for bait. Of more interest he was testing out a 416 Ruger.

Looks like the predictions are coming true.

Can anyone say RIGBY? fishing

OK, as long as your rifle and ammo arrive together.

I think it's cool - another new round that fits in std length actions. Hope it rusults in a temporary oversupply of Rigby brass. That stuff is too expensive and I need to stock up.

Ray, what kind of performance are you getting with your .416 Ruger?

My 416/375 Ruger has a 20 inch barrel and can duplicate my 24 inch 416 Rem. with everything except the 450 gr. Woodleighs and I get pretty close with them but ran out of powder room a bit. I get it done with less powder..

I may be getting more pressure with the Ruger, but I am sure not beyond safe with it...

I know that I could load my 416 Rem hot and beat it by a 100 FPS or more, but to me any 416 should be shot at 2400 FPS with a 400 gr. bullet and they both get that done easy enough..

The .375 Ruger equals the 375 H&H also, at least on my chronograph, but again you could squeeze more out of the H&H , but you wouldn't gain a thing by doing so.

The other thing is that .416 Ruger ( a picture on the classified btw) has that short heavy tube and it handles like a Boss 20 ga. and I am normally opposed to short tubes but I really like this one..

My next project when I get my 404 Jefferys finished will be a 404/375 Ruger..Then I will have both 404s to compare to each other..Fun and games is all it is with me..One caliber within reason is as good as another for shooting DG IMO....

I shot a .416 Ruger Hawkeye African in August at a writer event. I didn't have access to a chrono, but I've tested a lot of Hornady's new introductions lately and have found them to be pretty realistic with their claimed velocities. I like the action size, too, but I am awful attached to my .416 Rem. I might take one next season, though, just to see how it does.

I've been waiting for this. Now maybe I can get a left-handed .416 without breaking the bank. Good news!
