The guy in front has both hooves off the ground while the hippo has at least two still in contact. Does that say anything about which one of them is working the hardest.

For someone that hasn't raced a hippo before, is there a chance that the guy could loose this race? I've had guys tell me they can run faster in anger than being scared, what mind set do you think this guy has?

I can only imagine the invocations coming from that guys mouth it reminds me of when i watched two drunken louts harrasing a hippo at lake mutirikwe in masvingo when the hippo had enough and turned around for them i have never seen such fast running starts i guess the lesson is never under estimate animals

Even if he is/was an Olympic sprinter, if the guy was still alive about 20 seconds after the photo, he is just luck that the hippo did not really mean business.

Or there is an easy to jump very sturdy fence just out of the photo view!

I showed this photo to someone who said, "Yeah but what would the hippo do if it caught him?" People don't understand what a hippo can do. Too much Walt Disney I guess.

I've seen this picture before! It is one of a string of about three shots near a hippo crossing on a road that runs close to a water source! The hippo was in the grass on the side of the road when the guy walked past. As you can see, from this picture, the guy got into high gear fairly quickly!
