Wayne van den Berg was attacked by a buffalo, and whilst it was goring the PH his Tracker, COWBOY NCUBE, attacked the buffalo in the face, trying to blind it with a knife. The buffalo then turned its attention to Cowboy, and chased him up a tree, thus diverting its attention from the PH, thus saving his life.

Charles_HelmCongratulations to all, especially Cowboy Ncube!
How many best leopards is that for John Sharp? I bet Jorge knows.

jorgeThree...I think, at least since 2001. It is interesting to note the bushbuck also came from Malangani where John hunts. I wonder if the PH listed was under contract to him at the time. Lots of bushbuck in Malangani. jorge

john.d.mIs Kobus Botha the Kobus that guided for Alex Kirkman?

MatswaniI bet you that no one checked if Dietrechsen was licenced when that lion was taken as he only received his full licence at proficiency in October 2006 and the awards were shortly after that.
Wouldn't surprise me if it was poached from Gwayi area either. The guy has had illegal licences, and then he is given an award. What message is being sent to other operators in Zimbabwe!!!

BwannaHow can one PH score 3 hundred plus pounders in one year. That's either a great area or some incredible luck.
28 February 2007, 20:48
GanyanaMatswani - I think delivered drugged from sondelani is closer to the story behind that lion. And No, He didn't have a license but has the right partners.
What signal is he sending out? Well you know who to book with if you want an MGM lion with a shapooed and blow dried mane

Jerry HuffakerBwanna, Those are the totals of both tusks added together. They are not 100lbs per side.

MatswaniI am glad to see that someone agrees with me, but surely he should not be given an award as it makes a mockery of the hunter's association of zimbabwe!! Who decides on those awards there?
07 March 2007, 16:21
Don HeathMatswani - Not exactly sure who decided on what- there was alot of politics that night so would think you would have to direct that one at SOAZ chairman- Jacob Mudenda. Roy Ludic (the ZPHGA chairman) jaw dropped faster than the Zim Dollar when that award was read out

Your post has certainly made me think though- as I am on the ZPHGA committee and was sitting at the dinner/awards and failed to put two and two together.

craneGanyana- given the new RSA regs should we look for certain operators in Zim to have a highly successful season(or two) for lions?
07 March 2007, 19:52
GanyanaThere have always been a few!!!
problem is often differentiating between rumour and fact. The Vet department launched a big investigation into PH's missusing dangerous (controlled) drugs last year.
So far one investigation is finished - The charge against Norman Crooks was pure B/S ...oh, sorry for dragging your name through the mud. Three others are ongoing. Fortunately, none of the "accused" hold dangerous drugs licenses so the vet departments initial drive to pull all PH's drug licesnces to stop canned lion hunting has Fizzeled out.
I "know" far too much, but whilst criminal proceedings are ongoing it is difficult to be too open. If Matswani actually has info I am Sure Don, Roy or Dr Chris Foggin would love to have it! - if they don't already.
08 March 2007, 22:45
MatswaniWish I could help but from what I understand from certain sources, fear plays a big part of people no coming out with the info required to end this unethical practice. Fear due to "correct partners."
08 March 2007, 22:49
MatswaniCan anyone give me any information on a Wayne Jardine, and what sort of operation he runs? I have heard some stories and am a bit concerned as I have a friend who is comtemplating hunting with him.
08 March 2007, 22:51
MatswaniDon, could you help with above request as you seem to be the person to contact as you are part of the committee there?
09 March 2007, 09:59
BwanamichSo is there enough cause for concern that SCI record book might list Zim lions together with those from RSA?
