Sending ammo ahead?
Are you allowed to send ammo ahead of time to your outfitter if you have a hunt planned in Africa? Lets use Botswana as an example. if not OK in Bots is it OK in any country? Anyone done this?

You will need an import permit from the African country in question and an export permit from the USA. Big hassle.

Personally I would not even think about it period ///

BTW (what is the point) of what you propose when you can take it with you as baggage ??

I dont quite know what you are trying to achieve by sending it ahead anyhow.

I would think it would be treated as an export shipment from USA to whichever country you send it to, and we all know the rigmarole and red tape that would be required to export ammo especially in this day and age of uncertainty

Cheers, Peter

Not only that, all packaging and documentation has to comply with the IATA Dangerous Goods Regs, for a 'commercial' shipment. Which means that it has to be done by someone accredited under those regs. Which ain't cheap [I have some experience with this, sending flammable liquid samples internationally by air].

And in addition, the couriers all apply a Dangerous Goods surcharge, which is quite hefty - about USD200 minimum.

All of the above are correct. You would under most SADEC law, be acting as a delaer/importer of ammunition. Just carry it with you.

In by gone years it was no hassle and I did it. But as everyone above indicates, forget it in today's world. Sad to say, but things have changed. It's hard to carry enough 12 bore along with the rifle ammo to do you much good.
