Mururani — A 44 year-old man was fatally attacked by a kudu while trying to kill it with an axe at Mururani village, some 130 kilometres south of Rundu on Saturday.
The deceased allegedly tried to kill the kudu while it was caught in a wire-trap. Kavango Regional Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Crime Investigations Co-ordinator, Deputy Commissioner Willie Bampton told Nampa on Monday that the deceased was identified as Johannes Wihinda, a resident of Mururani village.
One of the trapped kudu's horns penetrated the left side of Wihinda's chest, while he was trying to kill it. The deceased died on the spot.
His next of kin have already been informed, and police are still investigating.

We had an incident recently on our concession in Moz.
Fishing poachers canoe was tipped by an irate hippo before first light one morning, all 4 occupants drowned.
Local authorities wanted the hippo shot, and were a bit disgruntled when we refused and suggested that we wanted to clone the critter since it was doing a better anti poaching job than they were.

The unfortunate individual killed by the kudu who we have freely labelled a poacher, was a local resident in the village so we are informed and who was probably snaring and taking animals for food or even in exchange for money to be spent on essential items to live on. I'm sure if the game animals in the USA were locked up and only available for rich overseas hunters and the locals were banned from ever hunting them, we would surely see plenty of white "poachers" in action in that country.
Maybe there are two sides to every story. I don't advocate poaching but I guess we need to define just who do we term a poacher, a resident in his own country taking game animals 'illegally' while the well healed foreigners enjoy their sport in the poachers country at their leisure.
Just thinking.

MolepololePoacher - Takes game illegally by not posessing license to take game and/or without permission of land owner/conservancy and/or takes game using unlawful methods (snare, etc).
"Well healed foreigner" - Takes game legally by posessing licence to take game and has permission of land owner/conservancy and takes game using lawful methods.
This would hold true in the U.S. as well as Africa and elsewhere.
Seems pretty simple to me.

Hey, mate, I reckon you made a fair comment, especially as we don't know more of the circumstances, but can only guess. Something that might sway the jury here against the man is the widespread practice of planting thousands of wire snares, and often not bothering to check them, which then causes painful deaths to massive numbers of game that aren't even eaten by humans (I'm not an expert, this is just what I've read).
