Frank BellerAnother question on ordering a new Searcy .......
I finally sent my deposit for a new Searcy PH Model in .450/.400 3". My question is this: what barrel length should I get ? Butch has a rather strong recommendation ..... I'll get a few responses before I reveal his thoughts. Thanks.

BigFiveJackIf you are particularly short in stature, you have to concider short barrels IF they'll give you your muzzle velocity of 2150 FPS with 400 grain bullets. Balance of the rifle will change as I believe SEARCY is inclined to a measurement of something over 20 inches. If you are at least averageish, (fake word, but I trust you get the idea) height, I'd suggest 24 inch BBLS.

Mickey126" It is the only way for a 400. Searcy can control the balance by wood density unless you have ordered an unusually light rifle.

N E 450 No2Frank
On my 450/400 I have 26" bbls. On my 450 No2 I have 28" bbls. On a 400 26" is perfect.
I have handled a lot of soubles, on a 450 to 475 double I would prefer 26, 27, or even 28 inches to 24" bbls. If fact I like the 28 inch bbls on my 450 No2 it handles perfect.

bulldog563Butch says 24 because he feels the balance is best with 24" bbls (at least with a 500 sized action).

RustyFrank,
There is no question. . .
Just get the 26 inch barrels and be done with it. The rifle will handle better, look better and perform better with 26 inch barrels.
The 450/400 3 inch was made for 26" barrels.
Butch has the only 26" barreled NIB 450/400 3 inch around.

That would have been my two cents. If you were going with a bigger caliber, I would have said 24 to 25 inches.
And yes, he is a HELL OF A GUY to do business with.
have you seen the new Classic actions?

RustyFrank,
WTG! You will never regret those 26 inch tubes!
If you'd like, have Butch send it directly to me so that the members of the DRSS can make sure it will shoot like you want it to!
