looking for name of beer from mozambique
I've been enjoying the postings of this board for some time but have rarely posted. A friend of mine was hunting in Mozambique and RSA this past year. He had what he said was one of the best beers he had tasted while he was in Mozambique. The bottle he said was of green glass, and was a barrel shape with a short straight neck. Any Idea of what it was??

OldsargeCould he give you a few more hints? Like, was it a pilsner, a lager, an ale . . .? What was on the label?

HunterJimRhys,

CDM make several brews in Moz. More description is needed.
This could even be Zambezi from Zimbabwe from the bottle size and color.

A number of the beers are actually brewed in South Africa or under licence as well, anyhow here is an expanded Africa list by country ....
How about I arrange a BEER SAFARI for you guys, not a 1x1 or 2x1 ... I think we make it a 25x1 and including bearers and helpers and general layabouts ????
Dip and pack of the empties can be consolidated in one shipment home, freight charges will be extreme to say the least ....
We proberbly need to make it a turn of the century classic [ 3 month trip ] and we need to take along our AK 47's and a large amount of panadol as well .. HIc HIC

Regards, Peter

Matt NormanI can't recall what I was drinking in Mo'bique, but I found it acceptable, (I usually do).
My tastes seem to go with German (or English) tradition beers. Favorites are Tafel and Castle. Had some good stuff in Tanzania too. Have tried the native brew stuff and found it wanting, similar to USA local beer like Grainbelt or Buckeye beer.
I think what makes African brew so good is the circumstances. Sitting around an open fire following a good day afield, chewing on some biltong, in the company of remarkable people, is about as good as it gets!

OldsargeMy outfitter in Moz favored Castle and it was good. However, Jim and I prefer Lion Lager for some reason. Darker, I guess, so we told him that this time we wanted a case of that available in camp. And you're right. Good beer around a campfire after a hot shower while you wait for dinner . . . it simply
doesn't get any better.
