StonecreekOf course the article doesn't say, but it would be interesting to know if the zebra parent is a Grevy's (Kenya, Ethiopia), Hartman's (mountain), or Burchell's (plains)? It would also be interesting to know whether the zebra was the sire of the dam. The three zebra species are no more closely related to one another than to other members of the equine family and are not known themselves to interbreed in the wild.
In the days that mules were bred for draft animals in the United States, it was typically the "jack" or male donkey that was bred to the female horse. It can be done the other way, and there is a commonly used name to distinguish a mule from a jack-mare union as opposed to one from a stallion-jenny union. However, I can't recall what those names are. Maybe some of our Redneck friends who are less than a generation removed from plow mules might inform us?

No, not lack of education, just advancing age. I used to know that, just forgot it (along with a whole bunch of other stuff).

By the way, I did "google" the word mule and found that everybody spells the stallion/jenny cross "hinny" instead of "henny".
As I recall, one of the zebra species will fairly readily cross with donkeys. Does anyone know which one?

Lhook7Thanks for the article. Someone posted a picture a week or so ago and I thought it was a photoshop job.

Good one there

TheBigGuyI wonder...
Does the result of this union answer the age old question?
Are zebras white with black stripes or black with white stripes?
From the looks of this hybrid the white with black stripe camp seems to have pretty strong evidence.
