Nice and important report !
However; AR is not reaching the people that should read this report. Any plans of making this more public on Facebook etc ? Sending it to journalist that you trust will make a serious and neutral article based on this ?
One thought that came up - just some loud thinking; would it be a good idea to make a web page and facebook page ( like DAPU ), but in general where several outfitters from different African countries participate with reports like this ?
Just asking ...
Since DSC and SCI are financially supporting many successful wildlife conservation initiatives (including Rio Save Safari Coutada 9, DAPU, etc.), perhaps they should expand their respective websites to include a section where these success stories can be shared with both the hunting and non-hunting communities. I suspect that many non-hunters access the DSC and SCI websites in an effort to obtain a better understanding of sustainable hunting and it's role in wildlife conservation. In addition to showcasing successful anti-poaching initiatives, they could also include relevant documentation such as NAPHA's recently released Position Paper entitled "The Importance of Hunting towards Conservation".
Agree - I hope someone with relationship to these organizations discuss the idea with them. We should promote " some electronic place out there " with science statements/reports, blog articles like the Duckworths have made here, Dapu etc etc...
This discussion has started in Norway as we see that the greenies etc are working on the EU with regard to stop the hobby/sport of shooting, hunting, reloading etc etc. We are now approaching our National Hunting Organization to come forward on behalf of all members. The National Hunting Organization in addition to the National Shooting Association is one of the biggest, if not the biggest, member organization in Norway. And they stay strong ... likewise in Sweden !

dande_jackWhen you see the inured and dead animals these poaches leave,ie: the eland with the axes and the trap a flaming necklace for these idiots may be all they understand, after all they were invented by the African!

Use Enough GunAn eye opener for the antis! Post it everywhere!

Safari2Does anyone out there have any "pull" with Ivan? This would be an outstanding subject of a future episode, especially as he already films several episodes from Mozambique. Would tie in very well with the anti poaching/success in C11.

shootawayI would not be surprised if that picture of the Eland were to make the front page of the social media news sights, another hunting ban would be just around the corner.

BakesPosted on Facebook. I actually have a friend who, thanks to post like this, has changed her mind on hunting...sort of. She doesn't like the killing of any animal BUT she does realise the need for it.

A mate of mine has just told me he's shagging his girlfriend and her twin. I said "How can you tell them apart?" He said "Her brother's got a moustache!"

Neil DuckworthHi Shawn I've looked at your blog, where you've added "due to it's location" the sentence needs to start with a Capital letter. Also by adding this section you might want to remove the similar section up top which covers the same point with slightly different wording ?
Cheers
Neil

GraftonGreat post.
It is a shame that there is not an economical way to get those traps over to the US. I can envision those traps bringing a couple of hundred dollars a piece and that money could go back to help fund the anti poaching program.
I could see direct sales through sportsman/conservation groups, National Trappers Association, State trappers associations, auctions, raffles etc..

This is what we should be concentrating on.

HuttyOutstanding effort by the Duckworths. SCI and DSC need to spread this message and the work of other PH's to more mainstream media. It is about showing the money, time, effort and results of sustainable hunting.
Its about changing the conversation.
The danger of civilization, of course, is that you will piss away your life on nonsense

africa1sttimerNeil,
This is a great conservation story and I'm proud of you guys for all your efforts and for taking the time to write this up. There just isn't enough out there to celebrate the successes due to big game hunting. It also makes me anxious to return when I can. Maybe I can make it work next year when I have time. We are sightseeing in South Africa in August so I need to see if I can swing up to Moz for a sable, assuming there is a slot open. Best wishes to you and all the family.

reddy375Neil,
A great job to say the least but posting it here is preaching to the choir. If there was only a way to get such messages out to the masses and those who don't know and don't realize what hunters do for conservation!
I strongly feel that a new organization needs to be created by hunters without "hunting" in the forefront to educate people, raise funds and spread the word, etc. It will also help attract a younger group of people over to our side than being swayed over to the other side by antis who spread BS.

SliderThe Antis are NOT about Conservation. They are about Eliminating Hunting. Excellent post and an EXCELLENT Job!!!

stradlingThis is a grand story

well done to all of the Duckworth crowd
Anyway it matters not, because my experience always has been that of---- a loss of snot and enamel on both sides of the 458 Win----

Neil DuckworthThanks all for the positive feedback. Like I said earlier anyone is free to use this. The more this type of information gets out there the stronger our fight is against the uninformed antis.

Dead EyeI had the pleasure of hunting coutada 9 in oct 2015. I cannot say enough to the quality and quantity of game in the area. Furthermore, meeting three generations of Duckworths, along with their staff, proved that they take conservation personally.
I truly hope that this effort is sustainable, as it has the potential to be a case study for the continent.
Great job!
