My suggestion is that if you lose your ammo in transit, which rarely occurs, .375 is usualy available in Africa. Likely not the case with the other...

Stick to your namesake and take a 375 AI. Very close to the 375 Weatherby in performance . All the reading I've done says the 375 Wby is highly regarded as about ideal in 375 bore.

depends on whether you want to replace the fillings in your teeth after each extended practice session at the range.

Every camp in Africa has 375H&H ammo left by other hunters.. Any ammo is better then an expensive club... Eeker

I much prefer the slower velocity of the .375 H&H....IMO you bet better bullet integrity, even with monolithics, but one could just load his 378 down a bit...Also recoil and blast in the .378 is a little much IMO...

The H&H by a long way, I believe. Why the extra velocity and recoil when heavy bullets at moderate speed do the job perfectly? Light bullets flatten the H&H out too.
The practicalities mentioned above are very relevant too.

I second everything Ray says and ammo is more readily available should your luggage get lost

375 H&H or 375 Weatherby Magnum might be a better question. The 375 Weatherby will safely shoot 375 H&H ammo. The question still remains is the slight increase in velocity worth it. I do hear the 375 Weatherby gets the 350g Woodleighs moving at 2550 fps ....

The 350 gr. Woodleigh was designed for H&H velocities IMO, and it expands to the hilt in the H&H, at least on Buffalo it does..To drive it faster would be a mistake IMO..It works best at 2350 to 2400 and expands to the size of a quarter or larger..

The PP will punch through most of the time and the RN will stop on the off side most of the time.

Somebody is masquerading as Ray. The real Ray is impervious to recoil and he can't hear worth squat so muzzleblast is also not a factor. BOOM

375 H&H - One World One Gun.
I'm a product of the 60's and 70's when the sky was the limit for velocity. I always thought faster was better.
Something happened when I hit 50 - velocity just didn't seem as important. The more I read and the more material that was available to read slowly sank in, there is a balance between too much and just enough speed.
Granted we have much better bullets that can handle velocity than at any other time, but the H&H is a time proven KILLER that gets the job done.

If you're genuinely comfortable with the .378 WM ... take a .416 Rigby or .416 Remington and a .375 H&H as a spare Wink

Ray when you say the 350g Woodleigh expands to the size of a quarter are you talking about the Weldcore, Protected Point or both?

Thanks,

Chuck
