SCI Convention - Reno 2008
I just tried to make reservations at the Peppermill for the convention. They are already sold out. Can anyone recommend a hotel?

any of the hotels offering "convention discounts" are OK but i like the Silver Legacy. the hotel is interconnected with skywalks with several other hotels/casinos in the area. the Rum Bullion Bar there is always full of PH'S at night and is a lot of fun

I've stayed at the Silver Legacy every year since 2000. Jdollar's advice is right one. I started staying there because that's where the Weatherby banquets are held on Tuesday evenings and there usually are dinner shows around the corner at the El Dorado. There's a great buffet in the arcade, a good coffee shop, and the best ribeye steak (although pricey) in Reno at Roxy's. I've already reserved a room, and have no idea if any are left. They usually book early.

Silver Legacy still has rooms. Tell them you are with the ACGG. You can get the correct group code off their website but I think it is FEGE08

Do you want it gleaming and glitzy and all packaged up with a casino and restaurant, or just clean and affordable?

We stay every year at the VAGABOND INN, next to Famous Murphy's, and across from the Atlantis and Convention Center. Usually runs about $85 per night with morning coffe and sweet rolls, and they have a shuttle to the show also.

I'd rather lose my money the old fashioned way - booking a hunt!!!!!!!!!!!

Silver Legacy and Eldorado are booked (for SCI discount). Their normal rate is about 80 buck more per night. I managed to get into Harrah's.

Thanks all.

Does the wife have to be an SCI member to attend the show?

Mike,

Pam and I look forward to seeing you there.

For you guys considering going, I'd try to make reservations now. My first choice flight leaving Reno for SLC on Delta was already full.

We are all staying at the Peppermill for the first time. Besides being the host hotel it is also where the APHA dinner will be held. We always stayed at ther Atlantis before. Atlantis.
Guess we'll make good use of the shuttle buses.
Trouble is..they don't run during set -up so you have to take a taxi. That's okay going over but it's a hassle to get back. I may just walk to the Atlantis, take their shuttle to the air port, and pick up the Peppermills shuttle to the hotel Big Grin

Did SCI change their policy of requiring everyone who comes to the show to be a member of SCI, including spouses? I heard a lot of flack about that but don't know the final word.

i am almost sure that ALL attendees have to be members. last year they had a special admission fee for locals to attend but i think you had to be able to prove you had a local address.

SCI’s Annual Hunters’ Convention is an exclusive members-only show. In order to maintain SCI’s exclusivity, memberships must be current and paid through February 2008. If you are not a current member of SCI please select membership type below before proceeding. If you are already a member please login in, but be aware that you may need to renew your membership.

If you would like to purchase badges for more than yourself, your spouse or your children 17-and under, please contact SCI Monday thru Friday between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm (Arizona Time) at 1 (888) 746-9724.

This is right off the website. Trouble is I can't tell if it means the spouse and kids under 17 are eligible because you are a member or if they too have to have a membership? Confused
My wife is a member so it's not a problem for us.

Just phoned SCI. If you are a current member, your spouse does not have to be a member to gain entry. She just has to pay the entry fee: 4 day pass $260, 2 day pass $180, single day pass $105.

For those of you still looking for rooms and have any "status" with Harrahs you should give them a call. I just got 3 nights comped. They apparently have a lot of rooms still available.
