Don't some countries charge trophy fees for rhino based on horn length? If so that would be one expensive trophy! Big Grin

Terry,

There´s something wrong with that buff! I haven´t hunted buff myself but I´ve seen plenty of pics and that one doesn´t look right.

I´d rather have a big boss and shorter horns...

Yes, there is something wrong with him.... and that is that he is not hanging on my trophy wall!!!

Other than that he is an outstanding trophy and certainly 'looks right' to me - he has a huge boss and great width. As long as the photo is original and hasn't been manipulated in some software application (such as Photoshop) then he is the buffalo that most of us dream of!

Cewe,

Man how much of that Finish vodka are you drinking? Big Grin

Honestly, I can't see anything wrong with buffalo. Huge bosses and maybe 60" spread. That is a World Record buffalo. That is a 1 in a Million buffalo. Shoot that buffalo and you might as well stop hunting buffalo. That may be the "perfect buffalo".

Massive bosses, super wide, deep curl and sharp hooks. Excuse me, I have to go take care of some "personal business", I'll be right back. Wink

Terry

P.S.
What's your opinion on that Black Rhino?

What a helmet! Must live in the open, cause that's got to be hard to take through the jesse.

That is a beautiful Black Rhino, were either shot and measured?

Thanks for the dream material

No, they were both only "shot" with a camera.

Terry,

I wrote my opinion sober (we Finns like to stay pickled beer)! Joke aside it just looks unreal, I start thinking weird hairdos and Bob Marley.

It might be a world record but I´d rather take a battle scarred dagga boy with wornout horns than something cowish. Just my opinion, not something I´m trying to sell to you guy´s.

The rhino is fantastic! If I was ever to shoot a rhino (and I´ll NEVER be able to afford it) that´s the one I want. Big Grin

Cewe,
None of us are trying to jump on you. Once you have shot a few buffalo, you will know what we mean when we say that is the buffalo of one's dreams. It is almost impossible to "beat" that trophy.

I would bet his boss is 18+ inches wide! If you consider that a 14" boss is "decent" you can understand why we are in "awe".....

Minkman:
The aberdares is a mountain range with heavy thick rain forest. Buffalo, elephant and rhino will "wear out" a passage in the underbrush over time so he wouldn't have too much problems moving around if he sticks to these tracks.

Bwanamich: I don´t fell like I´ve been attacked! I understand what you mean it´s just that I find that buff ugly. The one you posted looks more like the buff I´d want on my wall. I try not to hunt inches but if that´s what someone wants to do then "live and let live".

Some animals just look "right".

Terry,

Thanks for the fantastic photos!!! It's too bad hunting is not allowed around or in the Aberdares anymore.

Our house in Kenya is on the lower reaches of the aberdare range, forest still connects us directly to the aberdares. We get plenty of bushbuck, duiker etc. and the occassional forest elephants coming through but no buff.

Have been trout fishing in the Aberdares for last 20+ years, still massive dugga boys there! Not many rhino left though.

Unfortunately a fishing rod in hand doesn't quite help the ego as having a good double when on foot!!!

Thanks again...enjoyed those.

Here below is a more recent photo of a buff. Photo taken in Kruger National Park in 2002.

Not as big as some of the others that have posted but I wouldn't hesitate on this one if it ever strayed into one of the adjacent ranches.

Now I see whats bugging me! What I like in a buff is a "tighter" curl of the horns -and a big boss. The first buff on this thread has really wide and droopy horns which just doesn´t look as good. IMHO.

Personally i prefer the "droopy" look, but it needs a good solid boss.

The buff in the second pic although very wide isnt to my liking, it hasnt got a good solid boss. Out of those i like the one in the bottom photo the most.

Personally, if I had a choice (This is a thread about dreams isn't it? Wink) my order of preference would be:
1- This would be a hard choice between Terry's picture and my 2nd picture. I'll go for Terry's because of the wider boss and deeper drop!
2- 2nd buff on my pictures
3- 1st buff on my pictures
4- 3rd buff on my pictures - Boss is still slightly soft on this one

Cewe, the tighter "curls" are often found on bulls that are younger as the tips wear down from use as they get older . If it is an old battle scarred bull you are after (as described in your earlier post) you will struggle to achieve both Old and tight curls.

Bwanamich: Sounds like old and tight don´t really come in the same package...There was once a buff posted on AR that had an extremely big and scarred boss, the horns being quite short but with a good curl. It was perfect.

Kudu seems to evoke a lot of feelings from people -some like a wide trophy, others want the points going in specific directions etc. My first kudu was +54 inches and a great trophy. In March Tino saw a kudu that would have beat mine with a good two inches but I wasn´t interested cause mine is the one that looks right!

Shot a smallish kudu for the pot and that was good enough.
