Travelling with Ammo from US
Could anyone assist please?

I am trying to find out if a NON US citizen/resident can purchase ammo in the US and then fly out with it? I am thinking of asking some PH friends of mine going to the shows to bring me back some ammo....Is there any form of paperwork to be done other than Dutch consent forms?

Thanks in advance

I don't have a clue, but I would think that where ever they land would be place you'd need to worry.

I'm sure they could walk into any sporting goods store and buy all the ammo they want, they could probably even get it on the plane... Problem is when they land and go through customs they could be in a pickle.

I believe Ivan pretty much nailed it. Rifle ammo can be purchased in the US by just about anyone (adult). As long as you stay under the 5kg limit in checked baggage per person the airlines won't have much to say. What happens in the country of final destination could be entirely different. I assume you know how to take care of things on your end, however. By the way, it doesn't take very many boxes of big bore ammo to hit the 5 kg limit.
Good Luck

Bwanamich, I fly to Tanzania several times a year on business. It would be no problem for me to bring along 5kg of ammo IF I THOUGHT I COULD GET IT THROUGH CUSTOMS IN DAR when I am not arriving as a safari hunter with previous clearance.

Not legally, it would seem.

Looks like a non-citizen requires at least a US State hunting license to buy it, then a Dept of State export license to take it out of the US. Which could take weeks to get.

See the 'Ammunition' and 'Departing the US' sections
here for a brief rundown.

Or this BATFE webpage for the full rundown, on the purchase side anyway.

Wink,
Thanks for the offer. I can easily get import permits here so will let you know if I'll take you up on the offer.

Gadge,
Many thanks for the info.

Bwanamich,
May I ask what caliber ammo you need?
Maybe some of our AR members will have leftover ammo after their Safari that they might be willing to leave with you in appreciation for all the infomation you have provided us with.

Adam
