I was referring to sheep hunts. I doubt there was any deal on these.

Larry's correct! Wilson Stout is a good friend of mine from Dallas. In one instance, Doug had promised to guide Wilson on the TZ hunt in question. He did not guide the hunt, claimed he was still layed up from his minor run in with a leopard in Zambia (which did happen), but instead was in Mongolia at the exact same time hunting Hangai Argali. I did not book Wilson's hunt!

We did book Shockey, Waddell and myself into Botswana when Doug still had CH1/CH2 in 2008. Ronnie Blackbeard was the camp manager, and the PH for myself and Jim. Ronnie was still owed roughly $20k when I last talked to him in 2010, and it took 18 months for Jim and I to get our tusks, as Doug would not/could not pay the remaining govt fees. Debbie Peake, Jim and I all stayed after him, and finally the fees were paid, and we got our tusks.

We never booked with S&S again.

So if he really is sick an dying how long do you think he has known? Do you think this influenced him to make bad decisions? Or has he been a crook all along? Nothing justifies this type of behavior but it is easier in my mind to understand. When people are in extreme distress they will make choices they wouldn't normally. Then again, I wouldn't, and have not, so perhaps it just takes the last bit of inhibition or moral guidance away. Easy to use as an excuse if caught and play the sympathy card. I don't know.

A while back I heard some rumours that he had taken money from clients and never delivered.

The story/rumour was he 'invested' clients money/deposits in stocks and when they crashed he had to be bailed out by his long term client and investor Steve Chancellor.

That's pretty much the same storey I heard.
He never recovered. Sort of a "when you find yourself in a hole stop digging" kind of thing and he didn't stop. One doesn't have to look very far to find someone he still owes. diggin
