Buffalo video clip #1: Nice shoulder shot, quartering on/toward. And the buffalo stopped the Walterhog for recovery and display in the previous photo lineup. Lessee ... number 4 from left to right (from the 18 Sep 06 thread) ... went into the right shoulder and recovered on "autopsy" from the left rear leg:

Saeed,

Great shooting and thanks for posting the videos.

On the first buff, did you take him in the shoulder or in the brisket? Were you concerned about the bullet going through and into the herd?

Actually it was 5 shots.

Number 3 - the first of the two, which was shot in the head - already had one in the shoulders, but, as he was still standing, I thought of finishing him off with a head shot.

The first buffalo was our first this year, and it was a very easy hunt.

We saw the herd from the car, and as luck would have it, we were down wind as well.

We just walked about 300 yards in long grass to get into a shooting position, as they were lying in a dry river bed.

The second buffalo was followed for about an hour with his herd.

I fired a shot at him and then we chased the rest of the herd to get another one.

We saw one standing broadside, but, most of his chest was hidden. I fired a shot at him as far forward as I dared, and he ran off. He stopped about a 100 yards further, loking back at us. He was hidden behind a tree, so as we tried to get more to the side to be able to shoot him, he took off. Luckily he went through a gap, and I managed to put a raking shot into him.

He dropped about 20 yards further. And as we usually do, I put a finishing shot into him.

I will post a clip of this one tomorrow, as well as of the one that walked straight towards us, and I shot him in the head less than 20 yards from us.

That would indeed be the most controversial issue of the 4 buffalo shot in the first three video clips.

Saeed has said he uniformly gets shoot-throughs with the Walterhog on buffalo broadside shots.

This was a quartering shot from shoulder to rear leg, on a diagonal through the entire length of the body.

If the buffalo had been a little less quartered, a bit closer to broadside, the bullet surely would have wounded another buffalo in the herd behind the target buff.

This would have been no skin off Saeed's nose, however ... unless he had to followup a wounded animal and somehow got into more excitement than he paid for.

It was indeed a risky shot with a Walterhog at 2700 fps, for most of us. But of course, Saeed knew right where that bullet was going, and was aiming for the far rear leg, with a Walterhog that never deviates from a laser-straight course. Wink

The Walterhog could have gone into the guts of a buffalo behind the target buffalo, had the red god sneezed. Then we might have the potential for some Mark Sullivan style footage. sofa

I couldn't see the hippo or zebra link.

Great videos though Saeed. Thank you for posting, those are always fun to watch.

I've heard of Mark Sullivan and his "death at my feet" style videos, can someone explain the comments above though? I'm not that familiar with the guy.

Everything is filmed in high definition, which is wide aspect ration.

Trouble is there is no media we can output HD to as yet - Blu-Ray and HD-DVD is just coming onto the market.

The DVDs we are making are in standard definition. And when HD comes along we will put them on HD.

All of us have been using the same two rifles for years.

Both are custom rifles built on the Dakota 76 action.

One has a Shilen barrel, and one has a Lilja barrel.

Both are chambered for our own wildcat, the 375/404. Previously we used the Barnes X 300 grain bullets, with excellent results.

For the past few years, we have been using our own Walterhog bullets, again, with excellent results.

Both rifles have the Leupold 2.5-8 scope in Dakota mounts. Both rifles weigh 9 pounds with 3 rounds and scope.
