Black powder brands in RSA
Could a South African local or somebody with first-hand knowledge please help me out?
I need to find out what brand of Black powder is available in Jo'berg, what size granulation (FFg or FFFg) and what retail stores carry it.

I have been told by one source that Swiss brand Powder is sold there and another says only Wano brand is available. Help please.

Wano is most common, in FFG and FFFG. Most gunshops will have it, as they all turned to Black Powder when the firearms were deregulated and could not carry on normal trade with CF rifles. Never seen Swiss.

Pete, I am learning that Wano powder is imported into the US under two different labels, Shuetzen and Graf's & Sons brands, so I'll have some to try before I get there. Thanks.

fairchase,

This is very good news! Last year I had a client who wanted to use, in addition to rifle and bow, also a muzzleloader. As you know the transportation of black powder or any similar substance on an airplane is a no-no! So we communicated and I [as a muzzleloader hunter myself] made sure I had an unopened 500 gram tin of Wano FFg ready when he arrived. But it turned out that his pet load just did not work with Wano.

Can you, or anyone else reading this, confirm the accuracy of what you "hear"? It would be a great help to many muzzleloader hunters coming to Africa to be able to experiment and develop loads with "Shuetzen and Graf's & Sons brands", of which they can get exactly the same in South Africa under the Wano brand name!

In good hunting.

I.m hunting SA next summer, and plan to use my muzzleloader. Any info about black powder in SA, availability, comparisons to US brands, etc., would be greatly appreciated!
