Old Elephant pictures...as requested
As requested in another thread about the good old days...
This was the cover of our 1989 Elephant brochure. This 98 pounder is my all time favorite elephant picture. I can't recall the guys name but he was from Alabama. He got very ill when he returned home from Tepi. Turned out to be encephalitis. Took him six months to recover. Tepi was a rough place! BTW, that's an Evans .470 double he's holding

Here's the rest of it. From the upper left clockwise, Nassos and Cresente Vergara with a 106 pounder. Nassos and Roberto DeCeasare with his 146 pounder (boy, did that one get attention). From left to right Jose DeHoz, Roberto Gabrese, Me, Nassos, and Hector Pefar with some nice tusks from, Gara Farda.
Next is my old friend, Yohannes Dernersesian and Jorge Jeminez with a 92 pounder (as I recall). Yohannes passed on last month. The camp shown was in Gara Farda.
Folks, those were the good old days.

Yes, When I recall his name at 3 AM tomorrow morning I'll give you a call!

I think it was in December of 1992.

Rich, thank you very much for indulging us. I wish I was old enough & had the resources I have today, to have been able to hunt elephant with you guys in the 80's.
Thank you again for posting the photos.

Best regards
Aziz

Just wait for a while gentlemen.

Walter is finalizing his drawing for a time machine, and he promised to take me with him once he gets it working.

He said "I am not taking you with me because I want to. I am taking you to be my body guard in case the machine breaks. You shoot better than me"

Can anyone get a better compliment than this from his best friend?

We are going to take pictures and videos, and we will make you all green with envy!

Especially you Rich!

Thanks for posting these photos.

Rich, If you do happen to recall the Alabama boy's name, let me know. It'd be interesting to know who, from my home state, was fortunate enough to do that hunt.

Thanks for sharing,

Ethiopia is so Rich with hunting history, and I feel fortunate to have hunted there. Nassos is one of those great PH's who has transcended time. But for all his accomplishments, it seems like sometimes he's been overshadowed because he's not known for hunting Kenya or Tanzania. And that's unfortunate because his impact on Ethiopia hunting and it's neighboring countries is undeniable. I just hope as hunters we never forget him when we talk about the "great PH's". He's yesteryear and modern day!

What anyone of us would have given to be able to have hunted that country in its glory days! It's still pretty darn good as I found out last November.

Just some rambling thoughts of mine. Nice pics Rich, and a nicely photographed angle of a trophy elephant with the Alabaman.
