Russ Gould2% on Taxidermy in Zim
Can anyone confirm that it's normal (or new) practice for a taxidermist in Zim to charge a 2% gov't levy on the cost of the hunt, as well as the taxidermy bill? The outfitter charged 2% on the hunt, so this taxidermist add-on seems to me to be a double dip, as far as the safari cost is concerned.

Wendell ReichHmmm, that sounds a little fishy

WHo is the taxidermist?

GanyanaHi Russ
Yup parks are now charging the taxidermist when he applies for the export permit. Don't think it's legal....ask Renee at soaz@mweb.co.zw what they are inflicting officially! (not that anybody realy cares what is legal, parks are desperate for money and trying to squeeze more out of the industry that it can logically bear. Also Zimbabwe Tourism Authority want 2% of the trophy fees from the operator (that should be what the 2% the operator charged you for was for). That is a levee I totally resent having been thretened with arrest for allowing SCI to put material on the ZPHGA stand at Reno that the ZTA boss deemed uncomplimentary of Zim! Many operators have also been either thretened or actually locked up for not paying ZTA "ENOUGH" - they wanted 2% of total cost inspite of what the law said, and sent the police around to enforce their whishes - the law be dammed!
