Try the novels by Bartle Bull. Great fictional reads.

The character in most, ie an English boy with part gypsy background is very loosely based on Bunny Allen.

Here's some fiction (novels, mysteries) that I have enjoyed:

Something of Value - Robert Ruark

Uhuru - Robert Ruark

Elephant Song - Wilbur Smith

Green City in the Sun - Barbara Wood

The Last Trophy - Brian Marsh

Ahmed's Revenge - Richard Wiley

The White Rhino Hotel - Bartle Bull

Cafe on the Nile - Bartle Bull

The Devil's Oasis - Bartle Bull

Natives and Strangers - Louisa Dawkins

Heart of Darkness - Joseph Conrad

The Covenant - James A. Michener

The African Queen - C. S. Forester

(A good read even if you've seen the Bogart movie)

King Solomon's Mines - H. Rider Haggard

Allan Quatermain - H. Rider Haggard

Some of these may be out of print. A good source for used books is:
