kayakerMore quality journalism from the 'core' of global intellectualism?
I read this quote this morning, its from Bonnie Tsui, New York Times, April 6...
quote "The diversity of its native species makes South Africa one of the most popular international hunting destinations. Zebras, giraffes, tigers and cheetahs are among the most desirable game."
Note the term 'native species' in the sentence...

Yes, I have heard of some canned specimens in the Free State, but hardly high on each outfiters list I would say.
We need to eradicated the tigers in SA because they eat all the kangaroos.......
What a beauty!!!!!

eyedocPlease-say it ain't so!
We seldom get to choose
But I've seen them go both ways
And I would rather go out in a blaze of glory
Than to slowly rot away!

Use Enough GunYes, I saw the very same thing. And people believe nearly everything that they read. I figured that Kathi or someone else might eventually post the article here on the Hunting Forum. Just more of the same disinformation and errors. With all of the hullabaloo about lion hunting in South Africa, I was surprised that she didn't get it right. But they don't care as along as it fits their agenda for the most part, right?

baboonSo will the R.S.A. tiger hunts get as much grief as the lion hunts?I really do want to shoot a Tiger!!

I am going to get the permits in order right now!!!

Think I will get me a package deal of two cheetahs and one tiger.

Cry 'Havoc,' and let slip the dogs of war;
That this foul deed shall smell above the earth
With carrion men, groaning for burial.

Use Enough GunDepends on whether you want to shoot a white tiger or a regular tiger. If you choose white tiger, I am sure that you would then have to have all of your white tiger permits approved by not only the SA government, but by PETA, ALF and Sigfried and Roy.

Of course, since Roy's unfortunate mauling accident with the white tiger, his life partner Sigfried would most likely be asked to sign off for him as well, but don't count on him doing it!

If regular tiger, you would then have to have the additional signatures of Pamela Anderson and Bo Derek.

mehulkamdarCome on guys, what do you have against South African tigers? If you don't like them, Bonnie Tsui's Chinese people love eating their penises.

Just ship them over and send the bill to Arthur Sulzberger Jr!

cable68In all seriousness, I saw a Discovery channel show about a project to raise Tigers in RSA. The idea is to eventually get a large enough population to re-introduce them to India. They were taking captive born tigers and teaching them to be wild.
Was kind of odd seeing a pair of tigers taking down a wildebeest.

Lhook7I saw that show also. It was very interesting, and there was some amazing footage of the tigers preying on African animals.

dakota45056Use Enough Gun,
You might be wrong about Bo Derek. A couple of years ago, she was representing SCI in Vegas, I think, and giving some of her jewelry to support conservation and hunting. Of course, things do change. Oh, at that time she was definitely a 10 for her age

and a good speaker to boot.

mehulkamdarCable68,
There are more tigers in the USA in zoos and private collections than in the rest of the world put together. Some people may have started breeding them in South Africa but the Indian government have their heads so far up their backsides that the tiger is bound to go extinct in India.
That said, tigers in South Africa would be like snakes in Ireland. You may find them in zoos etc but I doubt the South Africans are going to offer tiger safaris anytime soon. This article was complete nonsense, and one expects crap from the NYT.

kayakerThere are definately tigers in private onwership (and zoos) in SA and as I said many years ago, I read an article and saw a TV show about two that were 'potential for canning' (this was just post-Cooke Report).
The probelm is that this article claims they are native (!) and are prime species for hunters(!).

Use Enough GunDAK and jorge: You two are probably right; damn, my mistake. So let's just go ahead and substitute in the name of Anjelina Jolie, Brooke Shields, Julia Roberts, Gwyneth Paltrow, Paris Hilton, Nicole Ritchie. . . .take your pick.

cable68That particular tigers in RSA project had nothing to do with hunting really, sorry for going off topic.
