Fiber Optic front sight for a Ruger RSM
I was looking at the front sight on my RSM today and I see that the bead is removeable. Does anyone know where I could purchase a fiber optic insert to replace the front bead? Seems like a good idea if I have to use the irons on an upcoming PAC ele hunt. I called Ruger but they don't sell any and neither Trijicom or Truglow make them for the Ruger.

They have them for $33.00 each. I replaced mine and much prefered it over the factory site.

Look under the category "Front Sights" and then Ruger Sights.

I did exactly that as a backup gun on my Zim tuskless hunt this summer. Be sure to get the larger version.

I have done the same with both of my .458 Lotts. Makes a big difference in seeing that front bead for sure. NECG is the place to get them as stated above.

I think the factory bead on a RSM is about worthless. Replace that and the recoil pad and you are in business. I also put a fine white vertical line on my rear sight and it worked very well with the fiber optic front sight.

The only other thing I did was to relieve the tang on my Lott as it was touching the wood. If my RSM Lott would have weighed less I would have kept it.

I have about every combination of front sight offered by NECG, and I can't get my M77 458 Lott to shoot high enough. They all appear to measure exactly what the factory one does, but for some reason I'm 6 inches low at 50 yards. I have recently purchased a new rear sight from NECG which is not vee'd out - allowing me to do my own filing. I haven't shot it yet so I don't know how it will work. Has anyone else experienced this problem with the M77 and open sights?

I didn't have any problems like that after trying different loads and front sights. Does the stock fit you correctly? I never measured the length of pull but it felt a bit longer to me than most rifles (could have been the kick eez pad) and thus it fit me better than most (I have long arms and neck).

I had the Ruger in 416 Rigby. After one trip to Africa, I sold it to SBT, who later took it to Zambia.

That rifle was one of the most accurate that I have ever owned. Would consistently place 3 to 5 shots into one hole at 100yards. When I bought the gun, I immediately (before I ever shot it) had the front sight replaced with the fiber optic sight. After sighting in my load, I removed the scope to see how the iron sights would work. The gun placed 3 shots touching each other right on top of the bullseye at 50 yards.

Hopefully you have the same luck.

I LOVE the fiber replacement! Put one on my 375 RSM. I can see again!

Good lick with yours.

Why is that several of us loved the RSM but sold it? I sold mine because of the weight which I felt was excess for a Lott. I also thought the forend was a bit too thick but it was a nice piece of wood. Shumba sold his too and clearly loved it.

I have a white bead on mine (RSM .458 Lott) and am looking for trying out some 550 grain Woodleighs in it tomorrow. The white bead is a big improvement over the standard sights.

Yes, it was a great shooting gun. I took it to Africa and shot a buffalo, an eland, and some impala with it (see above photos). It performed great. However, I have quite a few DG guns and I am much more fond of Winchesters. I also felt that the Ruger was too heavy and the forend too wide for my taste.

It is funny, but when I sold it to SBT on this board, I think he doubted that the gun was as accurate as I claimed. His logic was also, why would a guy sell a rifle that is supposed to be so accurate. His doubts went away after he shot it and now I think it is the most accurate rifle that he has.

I have been on two DG/PG safaris so far and I seem to prefer to take different rifle on each trip. I just did not see myself hunting DG with that rifle again when I had some 458 WM, 416 Rem, 375H&H and a 470 NE (now gone) sitting in the safe.

I got the big white bead from NECG after I melted the fiberoptic one with an inadvertent spray of solvent. My Ruger RSM in .416 Rigby is not the most accurate big bore I own, but at 0.140 MOA for three shots, it is a close second. Ruger knows how to make barrels, and that recoil plate contraption on the action with a clean barrel throughout the barrel channel interface does make for accuracy.

Unfortunately, it also makes for breaking stocks on the .458 Lott.
