I just placed my order with Safari Press for Footsteps. They just received it in their warehouse and will ship out today! Can't wait.

Operator also told me of a new book by Boddington called Leopard that will be avaiable to ship next week. Will let you know if it is good as his previous works.

I received my copy in the mail today. I really enjoyed reading part of it. It has some really good vintage African photos!

All people who had the book on back order early March should have their copy now if we shipped to a US address. International will take a little longer.

Someone couldn't have picked a worse time to steal my credit card number and rack up a pile of fraudulent on-line gambling charges. I was in the middle of a week long business trip and my "Footsteps" was ready to ship!!! Arghh...

Thankfully the nice lady at Safari Press will wait for me to receive my new card number. Just wish I could be reading it right now!

Ian's son Clive was killed in a car accident in Southern Zimbabwe near Beit Bridge as far as I can recall in the 1980s. Ian was greatly attached to Clive and said Clive was a good hunter when I met Ian in Zimbabwe in the 1990s. Apparently Clive partook in the Zimbabwe bush war with the Rhodesian Forces. Ian’s wife Joan died some time ago in Namibia, they had divorced years ago. Ian has one surviving immediate relative, his daughter Cheryl who lives in South Africa.

Nyschens dedicated Footsteps, which I received yesterday, thank you, to the memory of his son, who he says was "killed" on 8 April 2000.

I'm not sure if he gets into specifics anywhere in the book itself, though, since I haven't yet done more than skim it.

That must be correct then, so I was wrong about Clive the 1980s date. I do know dfor sure Joan died some time ago and that Cheryl is still alive.

As a follow up I should mention that I have heard a new revised edition of FOIH is being considered. I have few details but I understand that some contributions are being taken out and new ones added in. Time will tell, in the mean time the first edition of FOIH is about sold out.

Got my copy of FOIH and Craig's Leopard book this week. Very nice.

Ludo, we really need some more audio books made like Finn's excellent Kenya cd's. What say you?

Welcome back. We have missed you and your insights into various books. I tried to fill in for you but have been a poor replacement.

Audio books ..... yeah, sigh. We have tried a few now, and unfortunately they are not a commercial success. For one thing they are quite expensive to produce. You have to hire a voice and a sound studio, then have a lot of studio work to clean up the noise you do not want to hear (paper shuffle, lip smacking etc) and then you are in pretty good shape. Actual cost of duplicating them is less than books. However, they sell very modestly, and I do mean modestly. So far we have Wanderings of an Elephant Hunter by Bell, Where Lions Roar by Boddington and Aagaard’s On Kenya.

We want to do more, one I have been eyeing is Nyschens’ work, possibly somewhat condensed. But we have to sell more CDs to make it happen.

I have Finn's of course and Craig's on the way. I am not really interested in audio books per se but I am definitely interested in products like the above where the voice is NOT someone hired to do it and you hear the personality come through of someone with a lifetime of experiences to share. We should have had Capstick for example (we do have his videos of course). Others would be Richard Harland, Tony Sanchez-Arino, Peter Flack, Kai-Uwe Denker, and Brian Marsh to name a few. A perfect example would be Hannes Wessels. I just have to order his book because of your description of his humor. That was why I loved Finn's audio so much...his laughter.

You mention Bell but I wouldn't buy the audio book of someone else's voice reading it. Also, part of the uniqueness of Bell's work are the shooting diagrams in the book. Those are things that can't be done on audio tape. That would be like putting Doctari's Perfect Shot on audio. It would make no sense.

I, for one, would like to see a book or a CD from Harry Selby or Barrie Duckworth. Are there any plans for either?

There are several more but those two come to mind.

I was lucky enough to have a few beers with Harry earlier this year at Rileys (Maun, Botswana)and asked in the nicest possible way about the possibility of a book. He just smiled and said that nobody would probably be interested and it wouldnt be much different from most other African hunting books.I for one beg to differ as I am sure would many thousands of others,however that is his right.
It will be a great tragedy if we all never get to hear his story as told by himself.
By the way he is truly one of natures gentleman,an absolute joy to talk to.

I very much enjoy the audio books and plan to purchase 'Wanderings..' and a few others in the near future. They are great for a long road trip or a late winter 'getaway' from cabin fever here in the Northeast.
