Eland fat?
free ranging on the other low fenced part of the ranch. They are coming to water. I'm going to shoot the bull, as the cow has a calf and I suspect she might be drawn down. In Rurark or Taylor's book they recommend a H/L shot as the shoulder is excellent eating. One of them recommends eland fat as being used for lard. I usualy trim all game fat. What is your opinion of eland fat? thanks capt david

Eat all the Eland fat you can while in Africa as you can't bring it back to North America

When I took the fellow in the picture they told me the next day that he was good and fat and that they took 2, 5 gallon buckets of fat from around his kidneys. Apparently they used it for soap making in days past as well.

Eland fat is as good as beef fat...Every part of an Eland is excellent fare..My favorite of all the game meat in the world.....The shoulder meat is very good and lots of it..I like to shoot then behind the ear if I have the opertunity..

Not enough fat on this S Tx. eland to keep from sticking to the pan, but butcher may have done some trimming, so can't offer any help on the fat. Sure good grazin' though.

The general problem with the fat of game is that it's often rancid because it's not taken care of properly. If it isn't rancid it should be ok.
