bcolyerHeaded for an Early season Elephant hunt.....
Hi folks: A while back I placed a post asking a question concerning the USFWS and the Ivory Ban......and ultimately hunting in Zim.
You may remember that last year I was in Zim and ON THE GROUND HUNTING when the ban - which was a surprise to me - went into effect. So we carried on with wonderful hunting, but did not shoot an Ele because of the ban......which did not affect the wonderful hunt a all! It took me a bit, but I think I have gotten over the shock and will soon be leaving to have a go at the Elephant once again.
Todd Williams (a friend on facebook), posted something that really helped snap me back into GO GEAR once again.
- Things Mentally strong people do -
1. They move on. 2. They embrace change. 3. They stay happy. 4. They are kind and fair. 5. They are willing to TAKE CALCULATED RISKS.
So.....guess it is time to get back in the game. I'm off February 25 through March 18th. To hunt the boundary of Hwange for the big boys. It will be thick and green......up close and personal......and loaded with Big Bulls eating their fill of proper browse.
Should I find that BIG, old boy, and place him properly on the ground. My PH will simply keep the Ivory at his home for me, and when and if the ban is ever lifted. My next set of grandchildren will have their set of Ivory - and life will be as it should.
I cannot think of a thing I would rather be doing in life. The weight is coming off. The muscles getting firm again from a long cold winter in New Mexico, and the skin becoming brown with tan. At 63+, I am eating right, feel like a million bucks, healthy and motivated. Hope you are getting there also. Thanks for your help guys.

LabmanHope you find a big one. Shoot straight and take lots of pictures so you can post them here when you get back.
The problem with elephant hunting is its so addictive and expensive. I've shot three, all non exportable bulls. When anyone asks me what's my favorite type of hunting it's a no brainer -Elephant hunting.

nickhGood luck on your safari,
your attitude to the ban is spot on. We must not let this obstacle stop us from our passion!
Here in Australia we have had a Total ban on any elephant import for the last 20 plus years, but we keep going. We just had lion put into the ban as well. I like and support Todd's views !!!!
Cheers
