Mike,
You hunt Hyena during the twilight hours and this could be your most difficult trophy.
Personally I would put Hyena on a pedestal with Lion and Leopard. Hyena is Africa's most efficient predator.
Good luck with your Sable and Eland. Keep the sun on your back and the wind in your face.

MacD37Harry who posts here, had a shoulder mount of a hyena in his store HUNTERS HEADQUARTERS in Bedford , Texas, when he had a store front.
I never thought I’d want a hyena mount till I saw that one. I really don’t want a full body mount of a hyena , but when, or if I get back to Africa I will definitely take a hyena if I can for a shoulder mount, and polished skull!

If I can get by without more surgery it is a great possibility! I would dearly love to get back to Zambia at least one more time before I check out!

My Brown Hyena taken over bait at night this July. These are all Great Trophies still looking for a Spotted Hyena, maybe next year in Mozambique.

505EDI had a brown hyena come out under my feet under a rock pile I was walking up...scared the shit out of me! Cool looking animal--I got an up close view!

Use Enough GunTo me, a brown hyena is more sinister and evil looking than the spotted hyena, but unfortunately, we Americans cannot import them into the United States.

I've seen more brown hyena than spotted hyena in my African hunting days and have even called brown hyena in with a predator call.

Shot my first spotted hyena in June.

Michael RobinsonJohn Hipwell, thanks for posting that excellent photo.
I once saw a brown hyena in the wild, but at a fair distance. Yours is quite a close-up.
What a nasty looking brute! What did you decide to do with the trophy? I would be tempted to do a full body mount.

Tim ViningTook mine in the Selous on a chance encounter. I think they are a great trophy and are spectacular as a full body mount in a diorama.

joesterI think either species look absolutely devilish; I've seen pics of Ugandan war-(drug?)lords whose henchmen have then on thick chain leashes...just cannot wait for my rug mount to arrive from TCI in Bulawayo

CaracalI've shot a brown hyena in Limpopo province. It was a great hunt and I really enjoyed the hunt.

John HipwellThis one will have to be a full body mount, the skull will make my daughter,s black bear look tiny!

I'd love to get one! Wretched things look
like the Devil himself though! Whoa!

Correct bullet placement, combined with the required depth of bullet penetration, results in an anchored animal...

Michael RobinsonI have been in touch with my PH, Guy Whittall, who has suggested pre-baiting with sable rib cages and the like. That's the tack we're going to take.
Maybe we'll get
fisi comfortable enough in the early going to get used to coming to bait, and then nail one when the time is right.
To all my AR friends,
asante sana for the very useful information and advice.
