Namibia---Kowas Adventures
Going on my first Africian trip in June with Danie Strauss owner of Kowas adventures. Has anyone hunted with him? Please provide feedback on quality of game and fairchase nature of the hunt. Thanks.

I hunted with Danie last June. My wife and I loved the place and the family. We are going back next year and most of his clients return, some yearly. It's a fair chase operation-we rode in the truck until game or tracks were spotted and then we began the stalk. I never took a shot within 100 yards of the vehicle. His place is fenced (17,000 acres on his ranch) but I don't think the fence detracts from the chase. They had a major fire last fall and lost a great deal of vegetation. It looks like the place has recovered well. Overall trophy quality is very good. The food is also a major plus. My wife is a picky eater, but I think she gained weight there!

Danie was NAPHA's president last year, that should tell you something.

Thanks for the feedback. My focus will be on Greater Kudu and Gemsbuck. What was the quality--looking for a 56" Kudu and 36+ for Gemsbuck.

My kudu went a little over 50". I took him because I liked the shape of his horns. I wasn't encouraged or discouraged from taking it. I'm sure we could have found better. I know Danie has taken 55+ inchers on his property. My oryx was a shade over 36" with good mass. PM me and I will send you a link to pictures and give you more info.

We're booked at Kowas with the Strauss's in June '08 for our family- including my wife and three kids (ages 13-19). Hope you have a wonderful time. Would love to stay in touch and see how your trip goes. Thanks.
