OrvarBotswana Update?
Any news from Botswana on hunting?

Andrew McLarenI'm afraid that in this case "No news is BAD news!" will apply?
Lion hunting banned, DG hunting banned, PG hunting banned! If they also ban [or have already banned] game bird hunting a lot of people are going to go hungry! Or become poachers?
In good hunting.

One cannot cure:Stupidity – nothing helps! Anti hunting sentiments – nothing helps! Put-‘n-Take Outfitters – money rules!

Today I still hunt! 30 December 2013, 10:50
Russ GouldActually you can still hunt private land for PG and limited leopard, and (I believe) elephant on gov't land. No PG, buffalo or cats on govt land. At least for now ... for Botswana has a growing lion problem.

Not true. Still hunting private land for PG in Bots. Doesn't seem to be any changes there.

SteveGlThe last I heard was that the CBO ommunities made some noise about the ban and it was teken seriously by some officials.
The proposed solution was that (as I remember it) the CBO areas, which are huge, would get the same rights as the game ranches.
That would be a big deal and, in essence, a reversal of the ban (except on government lands).

This would be great news..BUT needs to get sorted out quickly for the 2014 season. Also I would not be surprised to see some elephant quota only on govt. land..it may be in the form of PAC/crop raiders...and will probably be short notice as well...just my 2 cents.

Aaron NeilsonAs far as Bots goes, I hold one very unfortunate distinction. I shot the VERY LAST legal Lion to be taken in Bots, in September 2007. Mere days after I left, lion hunting was closed for good.
I did my last hunt in Bots in 2008 / Elephant & Buffalo, and two other safaris in 2003 & 2005. It seemed like the talk was always the same - what's gonna close, and when's it gonna happen?
TIA, as others have said in the past. But what a damn shame all of this is, as I have never seen elephants like I've seen in Bots. A special place for sure!!!
