Well Theo. Roosevelt actually did ride a horse in Africa, and he had what, 100 people carrying his kit for him.

Every client that has bought a pair of Courtney boots whilst they have been out here has sworn they are the best they have ever had. In fact I have sent several pairs over to the States to clients who wanted to replace theirs after a few years.

I think the simple reason is that Courtneys are made in Africa and suit African conditions. Its as simple as that. The Judge had his analysis right when he summed up the criteria but as an overall boot my Courtneys have beaten everything else I have ever had hands down. I have been wearing a pair since I started hunting and farming...and hell no I aint telling you how long that is Big Grin

HT,
Do you have a pair of those? I posted about them a month or two ago. They look like they should work, but curious about first hand experience.

I am a big fan of the Courtney Selous...they are a bit pricey but worth their weight in gold if you ask me. Here are some of the key features why I like mine:

- My feet are always dry when I take them off.
- The sole is really quiet...it looks bulky like a car tyre but it is very very quiet when you are stalking on foot.
- The collar is very soft.
- Overall comfort an A+
- Very easy to put on and off.
- Clean up nicely after the safari

Having said that, there are couple of things you have to keep in mind. Try them on before you buy them, they come in funky african sizes, so if you live in the States make sure you physically try them on. They actually look better once you start wearing them. They are NOT waterproof. You must give them a good polish every now and then to keep the leather conditioned.

I wear mine with ankle gaiters....gaiters take a lot of punishment and keep the boot protected.

I've been wearing a pair all summer long and have put hundreds of miles on them and have to say that they are the most comfortable functional light boot I've ever worn. For being Gore-tex lined the suckers are very cool in hot weather too. The sole is a very soft yet incredibly durable rubber. I think they'd work great in Africa.

I also have a pair of Courtney's and they are awesome too. The issue I have with mine is that I bought them in Zimbabwe and they are elephant hide. I've heard several stories about ICE folks confiscating elephant hide Courtney boots on reentry.

So if your choice is Courtney make sure they aren't elephant hide!

I've hunted Africa in mine multiple times and never had a problem. I have nightmares about having to ride from my reentry airport to my home in my pink bunny slippers after the fuzz takes my Courtney's though!

Frowner At least one can understand the size and not end up with a shoe that is too small. Big Grin
